This document provides installation and usage instructions for a Maytag Commercial Gas or Electric Dryer, models MDE20PDFGW and MDG20PDFGW.
Function Description:
The Maytag Commercial Dryer is designed for drying clothes and textiles that have been washed in water. It is intended for use in public areas, such as laundromats, but is not exclusively limited to them. The dryer offers various operational modes, including fixed cycle pricing, accumulator pricing, and free cycles, making it suitable for different commercial settings. It supports both coin-drop (PD models) and electronic control/card-ready (PR models) payment systems. The dryer is designed for outdoor exhaustion to prevent fire risks and requires proper ventilation and gas/electrical connections depending on the model.

- Electrical Requirements (Electric Dryer): 220-240 V, 50 Hz AC, 4575 W. Requires a 3-wire circular cord of minimum conductor size 4.0 mm² and a 25 A (minimum) supply fuse. Must be connected to a single-phase electricity supply with a fixed wiring installation.
- Gas Requirements (Gas Dryer): Factory adjusted for NATURAL GAS (G20) with an injector size of 2.2 mm and a heat input gross of 5.9 kW. It is also certified for use with L.P. (propane or butane) gases with appropriate conversion kits. Gas supply line should be minimum 12.5 mm (1/2") ID rigid pipe, or 10 mm (3/8") ID for lengths under 6.1 m (20'). Gas inlet connection is a 3/8" NPT thread, with an adapter supplied for conversion to ISO.228-1 thread (3/8" BSP).

- Side View: 743 mm (29¼") depth, 660 mm (26") width, 889 mm (35") height to top of main body, 210 mm (8¼") additional height for control panel.
- Back View: 686 mm (27") width. Gas models have a gas inlet at 140 mm (5½") from the bottom and 343 mm (13½") from the side. Electric models have electrical connections at 38 mm (1½") from the bottom and 343 mm (13½") from the side. Exhaust vent is 102 mm (4" dia).
- Clearances (Recessed/Closet Installation):
- Front View: 356 mm (14") maximum from front to wall, 381 mm (15") from top of dryer to ceiling.
- Side View: 356 mm (14") maximum from side to wall, 381 mm (15") from top of dryer to ceiling.
- Air Openings (Closet Door): Minimum unobstructed air opening of 310 cm² (48 in²) at the top and 155 cm² (24 in²) at the bottom of the door.
- Dryer Venting Requirements: Heavy metal vent, 102 mm (4") diameter. Total length should not exceed 2.4 m (7¾ ft) for flexible metal duct. Vent system length depends on the number of 90° turns and exhaust hood type (e.g., Box, Louvered, Angled Hoods). Exhaust hood must be at least 305 mm (12") from the ground.
Usage Features:
- Electronic Control Setup (PD & PR Models): The dryer controls are programmed using keypads (HEAVY DUTY, NORMAL, DELICATES buttons) and a digital display.
- PD Models (Coin Drop): Factory default is $1.50 for a 30-minute fixed cycle with top-off capability.
- PR Models (Electronic Control/Card Ready): Factory default is $0.00 for a 45-minute fixed cycle, allowing free operation without readers or coins.
- Pricing Types: Fixed "Vend" Pricing (accepts additional time up to 75 minutes in increments of a full dry cycle), Accumulator Pricing (purchases cycle time one coin at a time up to 75 minutes), Fixed Cycle with Top Off Pricing (adds time to an existing cycle in increments), and Free Cycles (price set to zero).
- USB Port Access: Allows for software updates and import/export of machine settings. Requires disconnecting power and accessing the display control board.
- Door Swing Reversal (Optional): Instructions are provided to reverse the dryer door swing for installation flexibility.
- Leveling: The dryer must be properly leveled to reduce noise and vibration. Leveling legs can be adjusted using a wrench.
- Gas Supply Connection: Requires a new CSA International approved gas supply line, a shut-off valve, and secure tightening of all connections. Leak testing with a noncorrosive solution is mandatory.
- Electrical Connection: For electric models, a qualified electrician must connect the dryer to a single-phase electricity supply at the voltage shown on the dataplate, using a suitable fixed wiring installation.
- Safety Features: Includes warnings for fire, explosion, electric shock, and entrapment hazards. Emphasizes the importance of following installation instructions, proper venting, and avoiding flammable materials.
Maintenance Features:
- Lint Screen Cleaning: Must be cleaned before and after each load to maintain performance and prevent fire hazards.
- Accumulated Lint Removal: Lint from inside the dryer cabinet and exhaust vent should be removed every 2 years or more often by a Whirlpool authorized person.
- Clearance Maintenance: Keep the area around the dryer clear of combustible materials, gas, flammable vapors, liquids, and any items that obstruct airflow.
- Periodic Cleaning: The interior of the dryer and dryer exhaust vent should be cleaned periodically by Whirlpool authorized service personnel.
- Troubleshooting (No Operation): Check electrical supply, circuit breaker/fuse, door closure, control settings, and gas supply shut-off valves (for gas models).
- Disposal: When discarding, remove the door to prevent entrapment. The appliance is marked according to European directive 2002/96/EC (WEEE) for proper recycling.
