Overview

This document provides user instructions for the Genuine Mazda Remote Engine Start, part number BCKA V7 620. It covers the device's functions, safety precautions, operating procedures, troubleshooting, and specifications.

Function Description:

The Remote Engine Start allows users to start their vehicle's engine from a remote location using a remote control. This feature enables pre-cooling or pre-heating of the vehicle's cabin by turning on the air conditioner or heater beforehand.

Key Features:

  • Engine Start & Stop Function: The remote control is equipped with engine start, engine stop, and automatic stop (timer-set) functions. The engine start operation is performed when specific conditions (detailed on page 13) are met.
  • Rear Defrost Function: The rear defrost automatically activates under two conditions:
    • When the cabin temperature is 5°C (41°F) or less, 7 seconds after the engine start operation via the Remote Engine Start.
    • When the rear defrost operation is manually performed on the remote control.
    • The rear defrost automatically stops when the engine stops and, on some models, after 15 minutes of operation. It cannot be turned off using the remote control.
  • Car Find Function: This feature helps locate the vehicle in large car parks. When activated, the hazard warning lights flash twice, and the horn sounds twice.
  • Answer Back Function: The device uses bidirectional communication between the remote control and the vehicle's controller. This allows the user to check the status of operations (engine start, engine stop, warm-up time, car find) via an LED on the remote control.
  • Warm-up Time Settings: The remote control allows users to set the engine warm-up time to 10 or 30 minutes. The remaining warm-up time can also be checked, indicated by the number of LED flashes.

Important Technical Specifications:

  • Remote Control:
    • Applicable Standard: FCC and ISED conforming.
    • Transmission Frequency: 922.8MHz.
    • Transmission Method: Single message transmission.
    • Operating Temperature Range: -10 to +60 °C.
    • Battery Type: Coin type, lithium battery CR2032 / Qty. 2.
    • Battery Life: Approximately 1 year (based on 5 engine starts/day). Note that the battery life for included accessories is not guaranteed.
    • Dimensions: 38 × 78 × 18 (mm).
    • Weight: Approximately 35 g (including batteries).
  • Controller:
    • Applicable Standard: FCC and ISED conforming.
    • Transmission Frequency: 922.8MHz.
    • Transmission Method: Single message transmission.
    • Operating Temperature Range: -40 to +85°C.
    • Rated Voltage: DC 13.5 V.
    • Power Consumption (during standby): 3mA or less.
    • Dimensions: 100 × 46 × 26 (mm).
  • Operating Range: The reference operating range is approximately 2000ft (610m), but this can be reduced by obstructions, radio wave interference, or a weak battery.

Usage Features:

  • Engine Start Conditions: For the engine to start remotely, several conditions must be met: the ignition switch must not be in ACC or ON, the shift lever must be in "P," no vehicle key should be inside the passenger compartment, the hood must be closed, all doors must be closed, the accelerator and foot brake must not be engaged, and the burglar alarm must not be tripped.
  • Engine Stop Conditions: The engine will stop if the hood is opened, the shift lever is moved from "P," a door is opened, the push start switch is pressed, the pre-set warm-up time elapses, the brake pedal is engaged, the accelerator pedal is engaged (due to rpm restriction), or an advanced/smart key is inside the vehicle.
  • Remote Control Handling: The remote control is a sensitive electronic device. Users should avoid direct sunlight, high humidity, extreme temperatures, water exposure, and strong impacts. If dirty, wipe with a watered-down, mild or neutral detergent. Avoid attaching many keys to the key ring or sitting on the remote control to prevent deformation. Be cautious of electrostatic discharge. Ensure the battery cover is securely screwed. Do not use in restricted areas like airplanes or hospitals as it can interfere with electronic and medical devices.
  • Automatic Retractable Door Mirror Function: If the vehicle has this function, the door mirrors will open when the engine is started remotely. To prevent this, disable the function before remote-starting.
  • Theft-Deterrent System: The vehicle's genuine theft-deterrent system remains active even when the engine is started remotely. The alarm will activate if warning conditions (e.g., door opening) are met. However, the system cannot be set after a remote engine start.
  • Automatic Lights: For vehicles with automatic lights, if the light switch is set to "AUTO," the lights may not turn on in some vehicles during nighttime remote starts.
  • Unnecessary Idling: Users are advised against unnecessary or prolonged idling to protect the environment and conserve energy.

Maintenance Features:

  • Battery Replacement: When the remote control battery is low (indicated by a red LED flash), replace the two CR2032 lithium batteries. Instructions for replacement are provided, including using cellophane tape to prevent scratches and ensuring correct battery orientation.
  • Troubleshooting: A detailed troubleshooting guide is provided for common issues such as the remote control not working, engine not starting/stopping, warm-up time check/settings not working, rear defrost issues, and car find function problems. Users are advised to consult an authorized Mazda dealer for persistent issues or if the remote control is lost.
  • Servicing: If problems persist after troubleshooting, users should contact the authorized Mazda dealer where the vehicle or device was purchased.

Safety Precautions (Warnings and Cautions):

  • Installation: Do not install on vehicles with manual transmissions. Only install on designated vehicles with AT/CVT.
  • Enclosed Spaces: Never start the engine in enclosed spaces (e.g., poorly ventilated garages) due to hazardous exhaust fumes.
  • Vehicle Periphery: Ensure the area around the vehicle is safe before using the device, especially if children or pets are nearby.
  • Disassembly/Modification: Do not disassemble, modify, or install the device in unapproved locations. This voids the warranty and may cause malfunction or accidents.
  • Parking on Incline: Do not start the engine remotely when parked on an incline, as unintentional vehicle movement could cause serious accidents.
  • Maintenance: Disconnect the vehicle battery's (-) terminal before inspection or maintenance. Never start the engine remotely during maintenance to avoid injuries from rotating parts. Do not perform maintenance in the engine compartment while the hood switch is pressed.
  • Remote Control Storage: Keep the remote control out of reach of children to prevent accidental ingestion of the lithium battery.
  • Occupants in Vehicle: Do not operate the device while people or pets are inside the vehicle to prevent unexpected jump starts or overheating/overcooling due to accidental climate control activation.
  • Fire Prevention: Do not start the engine near flammable materials (oil, dry grass) or while the vehicle is covered, as high exhaust temperatures could cause a fire.
  • Water Exposure (Remote Control): The remote control is water-resistant for daily use but may break if submerged or if water gets inside.
  • Post-Warm-up Inspection: Wait 5 minutes after the engine stops and check for heat hazards before performing inspection or maintenance.
  • Parking Checks: Before starting the engine remotely, ensure the parking brake is engaged, the shift lever is in "P," no vehicle keys are inside, all doors and windows are closed, doors are locked, and the hood is closed.

This device complies with FCC and ISED regulations, and users should be aware of local laws regarding remote starters.
