Genuine Remote Engine Start (Mazda CX-5, Part No. C930 V7 620)

This document outlines the features, safety precautions, and operational guidelines for the Genuine Remote Engine Start system designed for the Mazda CX-5. This accessory allows users to remotely start their vehicle's engine, pre-condition the cabin with the air conditioner or heater, and check the vehicle's status from a distance using a dedicated remote control.

Function Description

The Remote Engine Start system provides the following core functionalities:

  • Remote Engine Start & Stop: Users can initiate or terminate the engine operation from a remote location. This function is particularly useful for pre-heating or pre-cooling the vehicle's cabin before entry. The system includes an automatic stop function with a timer.
  • Rear Defrost Activation: The rear defrost system can be automatically activated when the internal cabin temperature is below 5°C, approximately 7 seconds after a remote engine start. It can also be manually activated via the remote control.
  • Car Find Function: This feature helps locate the vehicle in large parking lots. When activated, the hazard lights will flash twice, and the horn will sound twice.
  • Answer Back Function: The system facilitates bidirectional communication between the remote control and the vehicle's controller. This allows the user to receive feedback on the status of operations, including engine start/stop, warm-up time, internal vehicle temperature, and rear defrost status, displayed on the remote control's LCD monitor.
  • Warm-up Time Settings: Users can adjust the engine warm-up duration, with a default setting of 10 minutes.

Usage Features

Safety Precautions:

  • Manual Transmission Restriction: Do not install or use this device on vehicles equipped with a manual transmission due to safety hazards. It is exclusively for vehicles with AT/CVT.
  • Enclosed Spaces: Never start the engine in enclosed spaces like garages or parking towers where exhaust fumes can accumulate, leading to poisoning or intoxication.
  • Vehicle Periphery: Always ensure the vehicle's surroundings are clear and safe before using the device, especially to prevent accidents involving children or pets.
  • No Disassembly/Modification: Do not disassemble, modify, or install the device in unapproved locations, as this can lead to malfunction, accidents, or void the warranty.
  • Incline Parking: Avoid using the remote start when the vehicle is parked on an incline, as unintentional movement due to engine vibration could cause serious accidents.
  • Maintenance: Disconnect the vehicle battery's (-) terminal during inspection or maintenance. Never use the remote control to start the engine during maintenance to prevent injuries from rotating parts.
  • Child Safety: Keep the remote control out of reach of children to prevent accidental swallowing of the lithium battery.
  • Occupied Vehicle: Do not operate the device if people (especially children) or pets are inside the vehicle to prevent unexpected jump starts or overheating of the cabin.
  • Fire Prevention: Do not start the engine near flammable materials (oil, dry grass) or when the vehicle is covered, as high temperatures from exhaust fumes could cause a fire.
  • Remote Control Care: The remote control is water-resistant for daily use but can break down if submerged or if water enters the device. Avoid strong impacts, extreme temperatures, direct sunlight, and high humidity. Clean with a watered-down, mild detergent. Avoid attaching excessive keys to the key ring or sitting on the remote control to prevent deformation. Be cautious of electrostatic discharge. Ensure the battery cover is securely locked.
  • Restricted Areas: Do not use the device in areas where electronics are restricted, such as airplanes or hospitals, as it can interfere with electronic and medical devices.

Engine Start Conditions:

For the remote start function to operate, all the following conditions must be met:

  • Parking brake engaged.
  • Shift lever in "P" position.
  • No advanced or smart key inside the vehicle.
  • All doors and windows closed.
  • Doors locked.
  • Hood closed.
  • Windshield wipers off.
  • Automatic lights (if equipped) set to "OFF" at night.
  • Steering lock engaged.
  • Ignition switch not set to ACC or ON.
  • Accelerator and foot brake not engaged.
  • Burglar alarm not tripped.

Operating Precautions:

  • Signal Interference: Strong radio waves or obstacles can block the remote control signal.
  • Cold Weather: Engine start may be slower in severe cold.
  • Response Signal: The remote control may not always receive a response signal even if the operation (start, stop, status check) is executed.
  • Door Lock Function Interference: Engine noise from remote start may interfere with remote control keyless entry or advanced keyless entry systems. Perform these operations when the engine is stopped.
  • Automatic Lights: If automatic lights are set to "AUTO" and the engine is started at night, lights will turn on. They will turn off when the engine stops. Set to "OFF" to avoid light interference.
  • Unnecessary Idling: Avoid unnecessary or prolonged idling to protect the environment and conserve energy.

Maintenance Features

Low Battery Warning & Replacement:

  • When the remote control battery is low, a "Low battery warning" will display on the LCD monitor.
  • Replace both CR2032 lithium batteries simultaneously with new ones.
  • To replace, release the clasps and slide off the battery cover. If stuck, use a cloth-wrapped flathead screwdriver in the depression to release.
  • Insert new batteries with the plus (+) side facing up.
  • Re-attach the battery cover securely.
  • WARNING: Keep batteries out of reach of children. If swallowed, consult a physician immediately.

Troubleshooting:

The manual provides a detailed troubleshooting guide for common issues, including:

  • Remote control not working (check batteries, multiple switch presses).
  • Engine not starting (check start operation, engine start conditions, distance from vehicle, rapid consecutive operations, other switches pressed).
  • Engine not stopping (check stop operation, distance from vehicle, rapid consecutive operations, engine started by another method).
  • Short operating distance (check batteries, distance from vehicle, signal blocking).
  • Receive error (check batteries, distance from vehicle, signal blocking).
  • Send error (transmission conditions in the area).

If issues persist after following the troubleshooting steps, users are advised to consult an authorized Mazda dealer.

Warranty & Servicing:

  • The warranty period begins from the date of purchase and is valid until a specified mileage or time limit (e.g., x0,000 km).
  • For any problems not resolved by troubleshooting, contact an authorized Mazda dealer.
  • In case of a lost remote control, contact an authorized Mazda dealer.
