a) "traffico aperto". In questo caso sentirete tutte le conversazioni trasmesse
sul canale selezionato.
b) "modalità di gruppo CTCSS". I toni CTCSS funzionano come una sorta di
codice di accesso e vi consentono di comunicare solo con quegli utenti che
hanno il Vs. stesso canale e codice. La radio rimarrà silenziata fino al ricevi-
mento del corretto tono CTCSS.
Procedimento per l’attivazione dei 38 toni CTCSS in RX e TX:
1. Accendere l’apparato.
2. Sezionare il canale desiderato (1 degli 8 canali) tramite i tasti ▼/▲ [2].
3. Premere 2 volte il tasto
[3] finchè il display mostra il canale
desiderato ed il codice del tono CTCSS lampeggiante a destra.
4. Selezionare il tono CTCSS desiderato premendo i tasti ▼/▲ [2].
5. Per confermare l’impostazione, premere il tasto PTT [7] oppure
attendere circa 5 secondi .
Procedimento per la disattivazione del tono CTCSS
Se non si vuole operare con alcun tono CTCSS:
1. Premere 2 volte il tasto
[3] finchè il display mostra il canale
desiderato ed il codice del tono CTCSS lampeggiante a destra.
2. Selezionare “of” tramite i tasti ▼/▲.
“VOX” lampeggiante in alto a sinistra, mentre a destra del n° canale apparirà la scritta
“on”. Tramite i tasti ▼/▲ [2] selezionate la scritta “of” e premete il tasto PTT [7]
oppure aspettate 5 secondi per confermare l’operazione.
ROGER BEEP: Tonalità di conferma fine conversazione
Al rilascio del tasto PTT [7], quindi alla fine di ogni trasmissione, viene emessa una
tonalità
che indica al vostro interlocutore che può iniziare a parlare. Nel MIDLAND G5
questa funzione è disattivata di default.
Attivazione:
1. Premere 4 volte il tasto
[3] finché sul display compare
2. Con i tasti ▼/▲ [2] selezionare “oN”.
3. Premere il tasto PTT [7] oppure un’altra volta il tasto
[3] per confermare la pro-
grammazione.
4. Il Roger Beep adesso è attivato.
SCAN: Scansione dei canali
SCAN esegue la scansione (ASCOLTO) di tutti i canali occupati.
Si utilizza per controllare le conversazioni sugli 8 canali. In presenza di un segnale su un
canale (quindi di una conversazione), la scansione si interrompe per circa 5 secondi.
Attivazione funzione SCAN
1. Premere il tasto SCAN [4] : sul display [3] i canali cominceranno a scorrere.
2. Premere i tasti ▼/▲ [2] per saltare temporaneamente, l’ascolto di canali che pre-
sentano un forte rumore di fondo
Trasmissione durante funzione SCAN
Alla pressione del pulsante PTT [7] la radio trasmette sul canale da dove si è fatta
partire la scansione.
Per disattivare la funzione SCAN, premere nuovamente SCAN [4]
Impostazione toni CTCSS
MIDLAND G5 può ricevere in due modalità:
Auto power save
MIDLAND G5 è dotato di un dispositivo automatico di risparmio batterie che con-
sente di ridurre i consumi delle batterie fino al 50%; se la radio non riceve alcun
segnale per circa 7 secondi la funzione viene attivata automaticamente.
Quando le batterie sono scariche, l’icona lampeggia sul display [1] : occorre sosti-
tuirle al più presto (se a secco) o provvedere alla ricarica per quelle al Ni-Cd e Ni-MH.
Presa CHG [8]
Inserire nella presa CHG [8] lo spinotto dell’apposito caricatore originale. Si racco-
manda di caricare le batterie esclusivamente con l’apposito caricatore. Attenzione: le
batterie alcaline non possono essere ricaricate.
Blocco tastiera
Mantenere premuto il tasto SCAN [4] per più di 3 secondi. La scritta Lc che
appare sul display per circa tre secondi indica la sua attivazione. PTT [7], e
L [6] rimangono attivi.
Per la disattivazione, premere e tenere premuto nuovamente il tasto SCAN [4] per più
di 3 secondi.
ALTRE FUNZIONI
VOX: trasmissione a mani libere
Attivazione funzione VOX
Premere tre volte il tasto
[3]. Sul display viene visualizzata la scritta
“VOX” lampeggiante in alto a sinistra, mentre a destra del n° canale apparirà
la scritta “of”. Tramite i tasti ▼/▲ [2] selezionate la scritta “on” e premete il
tasto PTT [7], oppure aspettate 5 secondi per confermare l’operazione.
Per trasmettere parlare verso il microfono [5]: con questa funzione la trasmis-
sione è attivata automaticamente.
Disattivazione funzione VOX
Premere nuovamente per tre volte il tasto [3]. Sul display viene visualizzata la
scritta
Regolazione volume
Per regolare il volume sul livello ottimale, premere i tasti
▼/▲
[2] finché non si ottiene
il livello desiderato.
Selezione canali
Premere una volta il tasto
[3] e di seguito i tasti ▼/▲ [2] per selezionare uno degli 8
canali ammessi. Premere PTT [7] per confermare la selezione effettuata oppure
attendere circa 5 secondi.
Chiamare (trasmettere)
Tenere premuto il tasto PTT [7]. Parlare ad una distanza di circa 4/10 cm dal
microfono, con un tono di voce normale. Il display [1] visualizza:
Rilasciate il tasto PTT [7] al termine della conversazione. Il Vs.Midland G5
invierà al Vs. interlocutore una nota di fine trasmissione (Roger Beep) per avvisare la
persona con cui state comunicando che avete finito di parlare.
(La funzione normalmente è disabilitata, per abilitarla vedi paragrafo “Roger beep”).
Ascolto (Ricezione)
Al rilascio del tasto PTT [7] la vostra radio rimane in modalità di ascolto.
La ricezione di un segnale verrà indicata con la scritta ”RX”.
Eliminazione Rumori di fondo/estensione copertura (Squelch).
Nel MIDLAND G5 il filtro per la riduzione del rumore di fondo (squelch) è sempre attivo.

Illuminazione Display: alla pressione del tasto
[3], il display si illumina per circa 7
secondi. L’illuminazione si può anche attivare con il tasto L [6] (per disattivarla, pre-
merlo di nuovo)
**Copertura
Prestazioni ottimali si otterranno in campo aperto. Fattori ambientali quali alture, edifici,
alberi, fogliame possono diminuire la copertura. All’interno di un’automobile o di una
costruzione metallica, la portata si potrà ridurre.

Accensione
Premere e tenere premuto il tasto

To activate 38 different CTCSS tones in RX and TX follow these steps:
1. Turn on the radio.
2. Select with the ▼/▲ [2] buttons one of the 8 channels.
3. Press twice the
[3] button until the display shows the
selected channel with the flashing CTCSS code segment on the
right.
4. Select with the ▼/▲ [2] buttons the desired CTCSS-Code.
5. To confirm the setting, press the PTT [7] key or await 5 seconds
approx.
To deactivate CTCSS tones
If you want no CTCSS code:
1. Press twice the
[3] key until the display shows the desired
channel and the CTCSS tone blinking on the right.
2. Select “of” with ▼/▲ [2] buttons.
ROGER BEEP: end transmission tone
When PTT [7] is released the radio will beep to confirm to other users that your trans-
mission has finished. This feature is disabled by default.
To enable it, follow these steps:
1. Press the
[3] button 4 times until the LCD shows
2. Select “On” by using the ▼/▲ buttons [2].
3. Press PTT [7] key or
[3] button for confirmation.
4. Roger Beep is now activated.
SCAN FUNCTION
The SCAN mode monitors the busy channels.
It is used to check the traffic radio on the 8 channels before transmitting and allows the
unit to stop on a channel that someone is talking on. When the radio stops on a busy
channel, the scan will resume after about 5 seconds.
To enable SCAN:
1. Press SCAN [4] key: channels will start scanning on the display [3].
2. Press ▼ or ▲ [2] buttons to skip the channels with a strong background noise.
Transmission during the SCAN function
At the PTT [7] pressure, the radio will transmit on the channel where the scan started.
To deactivate this function, push the SCAN [4] key again.
CTCSS-sub-tone setting
MIDLAND G5 can receive in two modalities:
a) open traffic: in this case you will hear any communication transmitted on the
selected channel.
b) group mode CTCSS: CTCSS tones are access keys that allows you to receive
only messages coming from parties using the same channel and code. Speaker will
remain muted until the correct CTCSS tone is received.
er receives no signal for 7 seconds or longer the “power save function” automatically
activates [1]. The battery life may increase by up to 50 %.
When the batteries are in need of charging,

essary to replace the alkaline batteries or recharge the Ni-Cd/NiMH ones.
Jack CHG [8]
External charger jack. Insert the original charger plug into the CHG jack [8]. We recommend
use of the appropriate charger only. Attention: alkaline batteries cannot be recharged.
Keypad lock
Press and hold the SCAN [4] button for longer than 3 seconds: the display will
show Lc to confirm activation. PTT [7] and L [6] buttons will still be active.
Repeat the same procedure to unlock the keypad.
KEY FUNCTIONS
VOX: hands-free transmission
VOX function activation
Press the
[3] key for three times. The display shows “VOX” blinking at
the top on the left, while on the right of the channel number, “of” appears.
Select “on” by means of ▼/▲ [2] buttons and push the PTT [7] key, or
simply await 5 seconds for confirmation.
Speak into the microphone [5]: the transmission is automatically activated.
VOX deactivation
Press the
[3] key again. The display shows “VOX” blinking at the top on
the left, while on the right of the channel number, “on” appears. Select
“of” using the ▼/▲ [2] buttons and push the PTT [7] key, or simply await 5
seconds for confirmation.

then indicate the last channel selected.
Volume adjustment
To adjust the volume level, push ▼/▲ [2] buttons until you reach the desired level.
Channel selection
Press the
[3] button once and then the ▼/▲ [2] controls to select one of the 8 chan-
nels. To confirm the selection, push PTT [7] or wait for 5 seconds roughly.
Transmission
For maximum speech clarity, hold the radio 4 to 10 cm away from your
mouth, keep the PTT button [7] pressed and speak into the unit. During
transmission the display shows:
When the PTT is released, the radio beeps to confirm to other users that your transmission
has finished (This function is disabled by default, to enable it see paragraph “Roger Beep”).
Reception
Simply release the PTT [7] button. When you receive a signal, display
shows:
Background noise reduction (Squelch).
In your MIDLAND G5 the background noise reduction device (squelch) is activated by
default.

Battery compartment
To open the battery compartment, hold the unit face down and slide the cover towards
the bottom of the radio; then, insert 3 x AAA alkaline or rechargeable batteries.
Display illumination
Press once the
button [3] to activate display illumination for approx. 7seconds. The
display illumination can be also activated by pushing L [6] button and deactivated by
pressing L again.
** Coverage
The maximum range is obtained during use in an open space.
The only limitation to maximum possible range are environmental factors such as
blockage caused by trees, buildings, or other obstructions. Inside a car or a metallic
constructions, the range can be reduced.

ROGER BEEP: Tonalité de confirmation de fin conversation
À la relâche de la touche PTT [7], donc à la fin de chaque transmission, on entend
une tonalité qui indique à votre interlocuteur que maintenant il peut parler. Dans le
MIDLAND G5 cette fonction est désactivée à l’usine.
Activation:
1. Appuyez quatre fois sur la touche
[3] jusqu’à ce que l’afficheur montre:
2. Sélectionnez “oN” avec les touches ▼/▲ [2] .
3. Appuyez sur la touche PTT [7] ou
[3] pour confirmer la programmation.
Le Roger Beep est maintenant activé
Fonction SCAN
SCAN permet le balayage (ÉCOUTE) de tous les canaux occupés.
SCAN est utilisé pour vérifier la conversation sur les 8 canaux avant d’émettre. En
présence d’un signal trouvé sur un canal (donc d’une conversation), le balayage
s’arrête et reprend après 5 secondes de la fin du signal.
Activation fonction SCAN
1. Appuyez sur la touche SCAN [4]: sur l’afficheur [1] les canaux commencent à balayer.
2. Appuyez sur les touches ▼/▲ [2] pour sauter temporairement les canaux avec un
fort bruits de fond .
Désactivation fonction SCAN
Appuyez de nouveau sur SCAN [4] .
Réglage des tons CTCSS
MIDLAND G5 peut recevoir en deux modalités:
a) "trafic ouvert" dans ce cas vous entendrez toutes les conversations émises sur le
Auto power save (Économiseur de batterie)
Le dispositif automatique économiseur de batteries permet de réduire la con-
sommation des batteries jusqu’à 50%; si la radio ne reçoit pas des signaux pour plus
de 7 secondes, cette fonction est activée automatiquement.
Quand les batteries sont déchargées, l’icône
est visualisée sur l’afficheur
[1]: il faut remplacer les batteries le plus tôt possible (si elles sont sèches) ou
recharger celles au Ni-Cd et au Ni-MH.
Prise CHG [8]
Insérez la prise d’alimentation du chargeur orignal dans CHG [8]. Nous vous conseil-
lons de charger les batteries exclusivement avec le chargeur approprié.
Attention: les batteries alcalines ne peuvent pas être rechargées.
Blocage du clavier
Maintenez appuyé la touche SCAN [4] plus de 3 secondes.
L’afficheur montrera, pour 3 secondes environ, Lc qui indique l’activation.
Les touches PTT [7], et L [6] restent actives.
Pour débloquer le clavier, maintenez appuyé encore sur la touche SCAN [4] plus de
3 secondes.

Activation de la fonction VOX
Appuyez la touche [3] trois fois. L’afficheur montre “VOX” clignotant dans le
haut à gauche et à droite du canal sera visualisé “of”. Avec les touches ▼/▲ [2]

firmer l’opération

Pour transmettre parlez à côté du microphone [5]: la transmission commence automa-
tiquement.

Réglage du volume
Pour régler le volume sur le niveau optimal, appuyer sur les touches ▼/▲ [2] afin
d’obtenir le niveau d’écoute désiré.
Sélection des canaux
Appuyez la touche
[3] et puis ▼/▲ [2] pour sélectionner un des 8 canaux. Pour
confirmer la sélection, appuyez sur PTT [7] ou attendez 5 secondes environ.
Appeler (Émettre)
Maintenez appuyé sur la touche PTT [7]. Parlez avec un ton de voix normale
à une distance d’environ 4/10 cm du microphone. L’afficheur montre:
Quand vous avez terminé la conversation relâchez la touche PTT [7]. Une tonalité de
fin transmission (Roger Beep) envoyée par votre MIDLAND G5, sera entendue par
votre interlocuteur.

Écoute (Réception)
Quand le PTT [7] est relâché votre radio est en mode d’écoute, indiqué sur
l’afficheur par ”RX”.
Élimination des bruits de fond/extension de la portée (Squelch).
Dans le MIDLAND G5 le filtre pour la réduction des bruits de fond (squelch) est toujours
actif.

Um einen der 38 Subaudiotöne zu aktivieren gehen Sie wie folgt vor:
1. Schalten Sie das Gerät ein.
2. Wählen Sie über die Tasten ▼/▲ [2] einen Kanal aus.
3. Drücken Sie zwei Mal die Taste
[3] bis im Display der Kanal und
das blinkende Ziffernfeld für die CTCSS-Subaudiotöne erscheint.
4. Wählen Sie nun über die Tasten ▼/▲ [2] einen gewünschten Kennungston
aus.
5. Um die aktuelle Einstellung zu übernehmen, drücken Sie die Taste PTT [7] .
Senden ohne CTCSS-Kennungston
Wenn Sie ohne CTCSS-Kennungston senden wollen :
1. Drücken Sie zwei Mal die Taste [3] bis im Display der gewün-
schte Kanal und das blinkende Ziffernfeld für die CTCSS-
Subaudiotöne erscheint.
2. Wählen Sie nun über die Tasten ▼/▲ [2] die Einstellung “oF” aus.
Wichtig: Beim AE 740 muss der Schalter in der Hörerschnur auf “VOX“ geschaltet
sein.Bei VOX-Betrieb muss die Sprechtaste am AE740 nicht gedrückt werden.
Roger Beep (Quittungston beim Beenden der Übertragung)
Der Roger Beep signalisiert dem Funkpartner das Beenden der Funkübertragung
(loslassen der PTT-Taste [7]). Die Quittungstöne werden automatisch nach Beenden
einer jeden Sendung mit ausgesendet. Diese Funktion ist deaktiviert.
Aktivieren des Rogerbeep:
1. Drücken Sie wiederholt die Taste [3] bis im Display “rb oF” erscheint.
2. Wählen Sie über die Tasten ▼/▲ [2] “oN” aus.
3. Drücken Sie zur Bestätigung der Einstellung die Taste PTT [7] oder ein weiteres Mal
die Taste [3].
4. Der Roger Beep ist nun aktiviert.
Kanalsuchlauf
Suchlauf nach belegten Funkkanälen. Beim SCAN werden alle 8 Kanäle fortlaufend
abgesucht. Wird auf einem Kanal ein Signal empfangen, unterbricht der Suchlauf für
ca. 5 Sekunden kurzzeitig. Danach startet der Kanalsuchlauf wieder.
Kanalsuchlauf aktivieren
Drücken Sie die Taste SCAN [4]: Im Display [3] wechseln die Kanalnummern im
Schnelldurchlauf.
Senden während des Kanalsuchlaufs
Wird die PTT-Taste [7] gedrückt, sendet das Funkgerät von dem Kanal aus, auf dem
der Kanalsuchlauf aktiviert wurde.
Zum Abschalten der SCAN-Funktion drücken Sie wiederholt die Taste SCAN [4].
SUBAUDIOTON CTCSS einstellen
Ihr Funkgerät kann, je nach Einstellung und verwendetem Kanal auf zwei verschiedene
Arten funktionieren:
a) Offener Funkverkehr (open traffic): In diesem Fall hören Sie jede Kommunikation,
die auf dem gewählten Funkkanal ausgesendet wird.
b) Gruppenruf (CTCSS) Durch die CTCSS-Subaudiotöne werden parallel zur
Übertragung unhörbare Kennungstöne mit ausgesendet, die ein gezieltes Rufen
bzw. Gerufen werden von Stationen mit der gleichen Kennung ermöglicht. Das Gerät
bleibt dann solange stummgeschaltet, bis es die gültige Kennung identifiziert.
Energiesparschaltung
Das Funkgerät verfügt über eine automatische Energiesparfunktion um höchst-
mögliche Lebensdauer der Batterien zu gewährleisten. Wenn das Gerät über einen
Zeitraum von ca. 7 Sekunden keine Signale mehr empfängt, schaltet es automatisch in
den Sparmodus. Der Ladezustand Ihrer Batterien bzw. Akkus wird durch das Symbol
im Display [1] angezeigt. Sobald die Batterien soweit entleert sind, dass die
Batterien gewechselt bzw. Akkus aufgeladen werden sollen, blinkt das
Batteriesymbol.
Ladebuchse [8]
Anschlussmöglichkeit für ein geeignetes Ladegerät (z.B. Art.-Nr.7360). Damit können
die im Gerät befindlichen Akkus geladen werden. Bitte verwenden Sie dazu nur die
Original-Ladegeräte.
ACHTUNG! Niemals Alkali-Batterien laden!
Tastaturverriegelung einschalten
Halten Sie die Taste SCAN [4] ca. 5 Sekunden gedrückt. Im Display [1]
erscheint das Symbol LC und es ertönt ein Bestätigungston.
Die Tasten PTT [7], und L [6] werden nicht verriegelt. Zum Abschalten dieser Funktion
halten Sie die Taste SCAN [4] wieder 5 Sekunden gedrückt. Der Bestätigungston zeigt
an, dass die Sperre wieder deaktiviert wurde.

VOX: Senden im Freisprechbetrieb
Aktivieren bzw. Deaktivieren der VOX-Funktion
Drücken Sie mehrmals die Taste
[3] bis im Display die VOX-Anzeige blinkt.
Drücken Sie die Tasten ▼/▲ [2] um die VOX zu aktivieren bzw. deaktivieren.
Im Display erscheint entsprechend VOX “on” oder “oF“. Drücken Sie die
Sendetaste PTT [7] um den gewählten Modus zu aktivieren.
VOX-Betrieb mit externem Mikrofon
Aktivieren Sie zunächst wie oben beschrieben den VOX-Betrieb. Setzen Sie erst dan-
ach den Stecker des externen Hör-Sprech-Sets (z.B. AE 740, als Zubehör erhältlich) in
die SPK/MIC-Kombibuchse ein.
Lautstärke einstellen
Zum Einstellen der Lautstärke drücken Sie die Tasten ▼/▲ [2] bis zur gewünschten
Lautstärke. Die eingestellte Lautstärke wird durch „UL“ (VOLUME) 1 bis 7 im Display
[1] angezeigt. Der Zahlenwert 7 steht für die höchste Lautstärke.
Kanalwechsel
Drücken Sie die Taste
[3] und dann die Tasten ▼/▲ [2] um einen der 8 zur
Verfügung stehenden Kanäle auszuwählen. Drücken Sie die Taste PTT [7], um den
gewählten Kanal zu bestätigen und in den normalen Betriebsmodus zurückzukehren.
Lassen Sie die PTT-Taste [7] erst wieder los, wenn Sie mit der Durchsage fertig sind.
Ein Quittungston (Roger Beep) bestätigt das Beenden des Funkspruchs. (Um diesen
"Roger Beep" abzuschalten, siehe Absatz „Roger Beep“.)
Senden
Halten Sie die Taste PTT [7] gedrückt und sprechen Sie mit normaler
Sprachlautstärke in einem Abstand von ca. 5-10 cm in das Mikrofon. Im Display
[1] erscheint das Sendesymbol “TX”.
Lassen Sie die PTT-Taste [7] erst wieder los, wenn Sie mit der Durchsage fertig sind.
Ein Quittungston (Roger Beep) bestätigt das Beenden des Funkspruchs. (Um diesen
"Roger Beep" abzuschalten, siehe Absatz „Roger Beep“.)
Empfangen
Das eingeschaltete Gerät verbleibt permanent im Empfangs-Modus, wenn
es nicht sendet. Empfängt das Gerät ein Signal auf dem aktuell eingestellten
Kanal, erscheint im Display [1] das Empfangssymbol „RX“.
Rauschunterdrückung (Squelch).
Das MIDLAND G5 verfügt über eine automatische Rauschunterdrückung (Squelch), die
ständig aktiv ist.

Einlegen der Batterien
Das Öffnen des Batterie-/Akkufachs auf der Rückseite des Gerätes wird durch Lösen der
Batteriefachverieglung und Anheben sowie Abziehen des Batteriedeckels vorgenom-
men. Legen Sie hier 3 Batterien des Typs AAA oder wiederaufladbare Akkus ein.
Displaybeleuchtung einschalten: Drücken Sie kurz die Taste [3]. Wenn keine
weiteren Tasten gedrückt werden, schaltet die Hintergrundbeleuchtung nach 5
Sekunden wieder automatisch aus. Die Displaybeleuchtung können Sie auch über die
Taste L [6] ein- und ausschalten
Reichweite**
Optimale Funkreichweiten können im offenen Gelände erreicht werden. Befinden Sie
sich in einem Gebäude/Umfeld mit vielen Stahlkonstruktionen oder in einem PKW,
muss mit einer Reichweitenverringerung gerechnet werden.

Inbetriebnahme
Einschalten
Zum Einschalten halten Sie die Taste [3] länger als 3 Sekunden gedrückt. Das Gerät
gibt drei akustische Signale (beep) ab und im Display [1] erscheint für kurze Zeit eine
Auto-Test-Anzeige mit allen Symbolen.
