Overview

The MNPV3 is a photovoltaic (PV) combiner designed for outdoor use, facilitating the combination of PV strings in solar power systems. It is rated for various configurations, supporting both circuit breakers and high-voltage fuses.

Function Description:

The MNPV3 serves as a central point for connecting multiple PV strings from solar panels before feeding them into an inverter or charge controller. It is equipped with bus bars to consolidate the current from individual strings, ensuring efficient power collection. The device is designed to protect the system from overcurrents and short circuits through the use of circuit breakers or fuses. It also provides a grounding terminal for equipment grounding.

Important Technical Specifications:

  • Voltage Rating:
    • 600VDC when used with USM1 fuse holders.
    • 150VDC or 300VDC when used with MidNite MNEPV breakers.
    • MidNite Solar MNEPV breakers are ETL listed for 150VDC or 300VDC operation.
  • Maximum Continuous Current:
    • MNPV3 = 60 AMPS.
    • MNPV6 = 120 AMPS.
    • MNPV12-250 = 168 AMPS.
    • MNPV12 = 200 AMPS.
    • MNPV16-250 = 240 AMPS.
    • MNPV16 = 240 AMPS.
  • Short Circuit Current Ratings (AIC):
    • 10,000 AIC for Ferraz ATM 600V fuses.
    • 10,000 AIC for MidNite MNEPV CBI QY breakers.
  • Enclosure Type: Type 3R Rainproof.
  • Wire Compatibility: Use copper wire only, rated for 75°C.
  • Mounting: Tilted back to 22.5° - 90° vertical.
  • Bus Bar Design: The MNPV3 bus bar is designed for circuit breakers or fuses and is rated for 60 amps total. The MNPV6 combiner comes with two copper bus bars, one for circuit breakers and one for fuses.

Usage Features:

  • PV String Combination: The MNPV3 allows for combining up to six strings using MNEPV breakers rated for 150VDC (120 amps total output) or up to four strings using 600VDC and MNTS touch-safe fuse holders (60 amps total output).
  • DC Only: This enclosure is intended for DC applications only.
  • Installation Flexibility: Supports both circuit breakers and high-voltage fuses, offering flexibility in system design based on voltage and current requirements.
  • Din Rail Mount: Features a din rail for mounting fuse holders or breakers, ensuring a secure and organized internal layout.
  • Labeling: Includes internal and external labels for clear identification of connections, warnings, and product specifications.
  • Hardware Bag: Comes with a plastic hardware bag containing necessary screws, lock nuts, and lugs for installation.
  • Fuse Adapter: Includes a PV3 Fuse Adapter (#5-040-1) for specific fuse types.

Maintenance Features:

  • Fuse/Breaker Replacement: For continued protection against fire risk, replace fuses only with the same type and rating. Additional or replacement devices must be of the same manufacturer, type designation, and equal or greater interrupt rating.
  • Approved Fuses: Approved fuses are KLM series, 600VDC, 30A max.
  • Short Circuit Current Rating Limitation: The short circuit current rating of the device is limited to the lowest interrupting rating of any installed circuit breaker or fused switch, or combination series-connected circuit breaker.
  • No User Serviceable Parts Inside: To prevent electric shock, the cover should not be removed by unauthorized personnel. Servicing should be referred to qualified service personnel.
  • Torque Specifications: Specific torque values are provided for QY circuit breakers (20 in-lb / 2.3Nm), USM1 fuseholders (15 in-lb / 1.7Nm), and terminal bus bar connections (10AWG: 20 in-lb / 2.3Nm; 4AWG: 35 in-lb / 4.0Nm; 2AWG & larger: 50 in-lb / 5.6Nm). It is recommended to torque breaker wires and then re-torque after one hour.
  • Labels: Inside labels (#10-008-1) and outside labels (#10-008-1) provide important information and warnings. The outside labels should cover the plugs on both sides of the chassis. The side label requires checking the model number (MNPV3), quarter of the year (Q2), and the last two digits of the assembly year (11).
  • Packaging: The device is packaged in a box (#9-104-1) with specific instructions for sealing using glue to ensure secure transport. The manual (#10-010-1) and remaining label sheet (#10-008-1) are placed inside the box for the user.
