Engaging selector lever position N
Unlocking is possible, if the starter can
crank the engine.
1. Press and hold down brake pedal.
2. Press the Start/Stop button. The starter
must audibly start.
3. Press the button on the selector lever,
arrow 1, and press and hold the selector
lever into selector lever position N, ar-
row N, until selector lever position N is
displayed in the instrument cluster.
A Check Control message is displayed.
4. Release the selector lever.
5. Release brake, as soon as the starter
stops.
6. Maneuver the vehicle from the hazard-
ous area and secure it against rolling
away.
With some transmission versions, the pro-
cedure for unlocking is as follows:
1. Press the Start/Stop button.
2. Press and hold down brake pedal.
3. Press the button on the selector lever,
arrow 1, and press and hold the selector
lever into selector lever position N, ar-
row N, until selector lever position N is
displayed in the instrument cluster.
A Check Control message is displayed.
4. Release the selector lever.
5. Release the brake.
6. Maneuver the vehicle from the hazard-
ous area and secure it against rolling
away.

Steptronic Sport transmission:
Launch Control
Principle
Launch Control enables optimum accelera-
tion on roads with good traction under dry
surrounding conditions.
General information
The use of Launch Control causes prema-
ture component wear since this function
represents a very heavy load for the vehicle.
Do not use Launch Control during break-in,
refer to page 234.
Do not turn the steering wheel when driv-
ing off with Launch Control.
Functional requirements
Launch Control is available as soon as the
engine and transmission are at operating
temperature.
Depending on the outside temperature
and driving style, the engine and transmis-
sion require an interrupted trip of up to
30 miles/50 km in order to reach the oper-
ating temperature needed for Launch Con-
trol.
Starting with launch control
While the engine is running:
1.
Press button and select SPORT
with the MINI Driving Modes switch.
