Driving
Vehicle features and options
This chapter describes all standard, coun-
try-specific and optional equipment offered
with the series. It also describes features
and functions that are not necessarily avail-
able in the vehicle, e.g., due to the selected
options or country versions. This also ap-
plies to safety-related functions and sys-
tems. When using these functions and sys-
tems, the applicable laws and regulations
must be observed.

Principle
Pressing the Start/Stop button
switches the ignition on or off
and starts the engine.
Manual transmission: the en-

pedal pressed when the Start/Stop button
is pressed.
Steptronic transmission: the engine starts
in selector lever position P or N with the
brake pedal depressed when you press the
Start/Stop button.
Ignition on
Manual transmission: press the Start/Stop
button without stepping on the clutch
pedal.

instrument cluster illuminate for a varied
length of time.
To save battery power when the engine is
off, switch off the ignition and any unneces-
sary electrical components.
Ignition off
Manual transmission: press the Start/Stop
button again without stepping on the clutch

off, switch off the ignition and any unneces-
sary electrical components.
Safety precautions
The ignition is switched off automatically in
the following situations while the vehicle is
stationary and the engine is off:
– When locking the vehicle, even if the
low beams are switched on.
– Shortly before the battery is discharged
completely, so that the engine can still
be started. This function is only availa-
ble when the low beams are switched
off.
– When opening or closing the driver's
door, if the driver's seat belt is unbuck-
led and the low beams are switched off.
– While the driver's seat belt is unbuckled
with driver's door open and low beams
off.
