INSTALLATION CONSIDERATIONS
Note: Prior to installation, the suitability of the wiring plant for use with the StreamLine switch must be
determined. For details refer to the Mitel StreamLine Hardware Installation Guide
.
LOCATION REQUIREMENTS
Power - The AC/DC Power Adapter must be placed within 1.8 m (6 ft) of an available mains power source. Do not
use an extension cord to connect the equipment to a power outlet.
Note: It is recommended that the Streamline 8-Port Switch be powered from a dedicated power outlet.
Environmental - The StreamLine 8-Port Switch must be installed in a dry location where the ambient temperature is
within -10° C to 45° C (14° F to 113° F).
Connectivity - The 8-Port StreamLine Switch should be installed in the same location that the pre-existing CAT-3
wiring terminates/originates, this will typically be in the wiring or communications closet.
SITE SURVEY
Prior to installing the StreamLine switch, a Site Survey should be conducted. For details refer to the Mitel StreamLine
Site Survey document.
VERIFYING THE WIRING PLANT
The wiring plant must be evaluated before installation to determine if the wiring plant is suitable for use with the
StreamLine 8-Port. For details refer to StreamLine Hardware Installation Guide
, Appendix A Verifying Wiring and
Cabling.
WARNING: INSTALLING THE STREAMLINE 8-PORT WITHOUT PRIOR VERIFICATION OF THE
WIRING PLANT IS NOT RECOMMENDED. THE INSTALLER SHOULD NOTE THAT IF MITEL
TECHNICAL SUPPORT IS REQUIRED FOR ANY INSTALLATION PROBLEMS, MITEL TECHNICAL
SUPPORT MAY REQUEST A WIRING PLANT EVALUATION REPORT.
SUPPORTED IP PHONES
All StreamLine products support IEEE 802.3af compliant IP phones that are designated Class 1 or Class 2. The
StreamLine products support some Class 3 devices provided the device does not draw more than 10 watts. For

Installation procedures will be trouble free if you ensure that the following items are available before you
begin:
 The StreamLine 8-Port switch, and all cables and accessories you received in the StreamLine 8-Port package.
 All StreamLine Dongles required for connecting the IP endpoint devices.
 Standard CAT-5 copper LAN cables for the uplink ports (user‐supplied).
 Standard CAT-3

unshielded single twisted pair cables, 24 AWG, for the downlink ports (user-supplied).

StreamLine is supported on both CAT-3 or better, and CW1308 cabling, of up to 365 m (1200 ft) and 24 gauge or better.
