Do you have a question about the Mitsubishi Electric MJ-E80EX-H and is the answer not in the manual?

Overview

This document describes the Mitsubishi Electric MJ-E80EX-H Dehumidifier, a device designed to reduce humidity and assist with laundry drying.

Function Description

The primary function of the MJ-E80EX-H is dehumidification, which it accomplishes by drawing in moist air, cooling it to condense moisture into water droplets, collecting these droplets in a water tank, and then reheating and blowing out the dehumidified air. This process helps to reduce the overall humidity in a room. The unit does not have a cooler function, so the room temperature may rise by 2-4°C during operation due to heat produced.

A key feature of this dehumidifier is the MOVE EYE system, which employs thermopile sensors to measure infrared rays emitted from distant objects, thereby detecting surface temperatures. This allows the unit to identify wet clothes, walls, and windows, and adjust the wind direction and air volume to efficiently perform dehumidification, particularly for laundry drying. In LAUNDRY mode, MOVE EYE performs an initial 3-minute detection followed by regular detection. In MILDEW GUARD mode, initial detection is not performed.

The unit offers various operating modes:

  • LAUNDRY: Dries clothes efficiently by monitoring room humidity and identifying uneven clothing dryness. It determines the location of wet clothes and directs air accordingly. Operation stops automatically when humidity reaches 50% or after approximately 2.5 to 12 hours.
  • MILDEW GUARD: Reduces mildew growth in bathrooms by detecting humidity or droplets. It dehumidifies the entire bathroom, activating MOVE EYE when humidity drops to 50%. Air is directed towards windows and floors. Operation stops automatically after approximately 4 to 12 hours when humidity reaches 50%.
  • DEHUMIDIFY (AUTO): Allows users to set a target humidity (50%, 60%, or 70%). The unit automatically adjusts airflow to maintain the set humidity, operating intermittently.
  • DEHUMIDIFY (HIGH/LOW): Provides continuous operation with either a high or low airflow rate for strong or quiet dehumidification, respectively.

The dehumidifier also includes a 3-D Wide Range Louvre that automatically changes wind direction in a wide range (150° up/down × 100° left/right) to target wet clothes. The louvre adjusts its position every 30 minutes.

Additional features include:

  • Drying Inside Operation: An internal drying function recommended after each use to suppress mildew growth on the cooler. It can be set for automatic activation or manual operation and typically takes about one hour.
  • Timer Function: Allows setting an OFF timer (1 to 9 hours) for automatic shutdown or an ON timer (1 to 9 hours) for automatic startup.
  • Child Lock: Locks the control panel switches to prevent unintended operation, particularly by children.
  • Continuous Drainage: Enables continuous water drainage by attaching a commercially available hose (15 mm internal diameter) to the unit, eliminating the need to frequently empty the water tank.

Important Technical Specifications

  • Model: MJ-E80EX-H
  • Power Supply: Single phase 220V 50Hz
  • Dehumidifying Capacity:
    • At 26.7°C, 60% Humidity: 8.0 L/day
    • At 30°C, 80% Humidity: 14.0 L/day (Note: Dehumidifying capacity indicates the amount of dehumidification per day over 24 hours.)
  • Power Consumption:
    • At 26.7°C, 60% Humidity: 205W
    • At 30°C, 80% Humidity: 250W
  • Water Tank Capacity: Stops automatically at approximately 3.0L
  • Weight: 13.0kg
  • Dimensions (h x w x d): 534mm x 360mm x 210mm
  • Operating Temperature Range: 7-35°C. If the room temperature exceeds 35°C, the unit may operate in blower mode or increase airflow. If it falls below 7°C, blowing operation starts to prevent freezing of dehumidified water.
  • MOVE EYE Detection Range: 150° up/down x 100° left/right, detecting temperatures up to approximately 4 meters away.

Usage Features

  • Installation: The unit is portable, equipped with wheels for easy movement. It should be placed on a flat and stable surface, leaving at least 20 cm of space around the unit and 50 cm at the top for optimal airflow.
  • Silver Ion Filter: The unit comes with a silver ion sterilizing and deodorizing filter, which is a two-layer construction (white particle filter and blue air-freshener filter). This filter removes pollen and dust particles and contains deodorant and anti-bacterial agents. It must be installed before first use.
  • Water Tank Management: The unit notifies when the tank is full with a lamp and sound. The tank must be emptied by gently pulling it out, removing the lid, and pouring out the water. The floating element inside the tank should not be removed or dismantled as it is crucial for detecting a full tank.
  • Louvre Control: In DEHUMIDIFY mode (AUTO, HIGH, LOW), the louvre swing direction can be adjusted (Up-Down: Upward, Frontward, Wide; Left-Right: Wide) to direct airflow as needed.
  • Child Lock Activation: Press and hold the CHILD LOCK switch for 3 seconds to activate/deactivate.
  • MOVE EYE ON/OFF: In MOVE EYE modes, the MOVE EYE function can be turned ON or OFF by pressing and holding the MOVE EYE switch for 3 seconds. Turning it OFF will result in the louvre operating in Wide mode without detecting wet clothes or windows.
  • Drying Laundry Tips: For efficient laundry drying, it is recommended to use the unit in a small enclosed room, place it so wind blows directly on wet clothes, and consider using a heater in low room temperatures (around 16°C or below). Thick clothing should be placed at the front, and adequate space (approx. 5 cm) should be left between clothes for air circulation.

Maintenance Features

  • General Cleaning:
    • Water Tank and Main Unit: Wipe with a soft cloth. If the tank is dirty, wash with cold or warm water and dry.
    • MOVE EYE: Lightly wipe with a dry cotton swab. Do not use water, alcohol, or detergent.
  • Filter Cover, Air Intake, and Sensor Part (Every Two Weeks):
    1. Remove the filter cover and silver ion filter.
    2. Clean the filter cover with a vacuum cleaner or wash it in lukewarm water if very dirty, then dry it well. Do not use a nozzle with a brush on the filter cover.
    3. Clean the air intake and temperature/humidity sensor parts with a vacuum cleaner. Do not use a nozzle with a brush on the metal fins.
    4. Reinstall the silver ion filter and filter cover.
  • Silver Ion Filter (Every Three Months):
    1. Turn off the unit and unplug the power cord.
    2. Remove the filter cover and silver ion filter.
    3. Soak the silver ion filter in cool to lukewarm water for about 30 minutes. Do not use detergent, hot water, or scrub the filter.
    4. Dry the filter well on an even surface in the shade. Do not hang it.
    5. Reinstall the silver ion filter into the filter cover and then the filter cover onto the unit. (Note: The silver ion filter can be soaked a total of eight times. Replace it after that or if it turns brown from cigarette smoke/dust.)
  • Continuous Drainage Inspection: If using continuous drainage, inspect the hose every two weeks for deterioration, bending, cracks, clogging, or dirt to prevent overheating or leakage.

Safety Precautions

The manual emphasizes numerous safety precautions, including:

  • Not damaging or modifying the power cord/plug.
  • Using only 220V AC power sockets.
  • Not plugging multiple cords into one socket.
  • Not starting/stopping the unit by plugging/unplugging.
