Overview

This document outlines the installation, operation, and maintenance of the Redstone Built-in (or Insert) Electric Fireplace, a supplemental heat source designed for indoor use. The fireplace is available in several models: RS-2621, RS-3021, RS-3626, RS-4229, and RS-5435.

Function Description:

The Redstone Electric Fireplace is designed to provide supplemental heat and aesthetic ambiance through realistic flame and ember bed effects. It operates on AC 120V, 60Hz, consuming 1465W (5000 BTUs) of power. The unit features a heater with adjustable settings, a media bed with changeable colors, and a flame with adjustable colors and brightness. It can be operated via a touch control panel located on the upper right corner of the fireplace or a battery-powered remote control.

Usage Features:

The fireplace offers a range of features to customize the user experience:

  • Power Control: The "POWER" button on both the control panel and remote enables/disables all functions and turns the flame on/off. When off, the unit enters standby mode.
  • Media Bed Control: The "MEDIA BED" button allows users to turn on the ember bed and cycle through ten different colors and one fade mode (01-11). This fireplace has a memory function for the ember bed setting. The "MEDIA brightness" button allows adjustment of the media bed brightness through 5 levels (L5-L0, with L0 being off).
  • Flame Control: The "FLAME" button changes the flame color, offering ten colors and one fade mode (01-11). This fireplace also has a memory function for the flame setting. The "FLAME SPEED" button controls the speed of the flame, with four settings: 01 (slowest), 02 (medium, default), 03 (fast), and 04 (fastest). The "FLAME BRIGHTNESS" button adjusts the flame brightness through six levels (F5-F0, with F0 being off). To turn off logs, press and hold this button for 5 seconds.
  • Heater Control: The "HEATER" button turns the heater and blower on/off. The heater operates only when the flame is on. Settings include H0 (heater and blower off), H1 (low heater on with 750W), and H2 (high heater on with 1465W/1500W depending on the model). To prevent overheating, the fan will blow cool air for 8-10 seconds before the heater turns on and after it turns off. The heater and thermostat can be locked/unlocked by pressing and holding the heater button for 5 seconds.
  • Timer Function: The "TIMER" button controls the auto-off timer, with settings ranging from 30 minutes to 8 hours. The timer defaults to 0.5 hours.
  • Temperature Control: The "TEMP" button activates the touch panel indicator. Pressing it again allows users to select a desired temperature setting from 0-10, corresponding to temperatures from 20-30°C (68-88°F). The unit can switch between Celsius and Fahrenheit by pressing the button for 5 seconds.
  • Down Light Control: The "DOWN LIGHT" button turns the down light on/off and changes its color. It offers ten colors and one fade mode (01-11-00, with 00 being off). This fireplace has a memory function for the down light setting.
  • Home Function: The "HOME" button returns all functions to factory default settings.
  • Remote Control: The remote control uses one CR2025 battery (included). For optimal operation, aim the remote at the front of the fireplace and avoid pressing buttons too quickly to allow the unit time to respond.

Installation:

The fireplace can be installed in two ways:

  1. Built-In Mounted: Mounted in a custom-framed wall, requiring hardwired electrical power.
  2. Insert Mounted: Inserted into an existing fireplace, requiring electrical power to be plugged into a receptacle (power cord supplied).

For both installation types, a dedicated 15 Amp (or higher) breaker is required, and the fireplace must be electrically connected and grounded according to local and national electrical codes (CSA C22.1 in Canada or ANSI/NFPA 70 in the United States). Clearances to combustibles must be maintained: 0" from bottom, sides, and back, and 11.8" (300mm) from top to mantel and ceiling. If painting or lacquering the mantel, use heat-resistant products to prevent discoloration.

The installation process involves removing the front glass, which should be handled with extreme caution due to its fragility. The fireplace is shipped with a 5/8-inch trim attached, but a thicker 1-5/8-inch trim is included in the box and can be installed by removing the trim screws and replacing the old trim. Extra-wide trim sets are also available separately for specific installations. After securing the fireplace, logs and glacier crystals are installed. The log-set connects via a plug-in connector, and glacier crystals are placed around the logs. Finally, the glass front is reinstalled.

Maintenance Features:

Regular maintenance ensures safe and efficient operation:

  • Safety First: ALWAYS turn off the heater and disconnect power before cleaning, performing maintenance, or moving the fireplace to prevent electric shock, fire, or personal injury. NEVER immerse the unit in water or spray it with water.
  • Metal Parts: Clean metal surfaces with a soft cloth slightly dampened with soapy water. AVOID brass polish or household cleaners, as they can damage the metal trim.
  • Glass Parts: Use a good quality glass cleaner sprayed onto a cloth or towel, then dry thoroughly with a paper or lint-free cloth. NEVER use abrasive cleansers, liquid sprays, or any cleaner that could scratch the glass surface.
  • Vents: Use a vacuum or duster to remove dust and dirt from the heater and vent areas. Regularly inspect all air vents for blockages.
  • Plastic Parts: Wipe gently with a slightly damp cloth and a mild solution of dish soap and warm water. NEVER use abrasive cleansers, liquid sprays, or any cleaner that could scratch the surface.
  • Electrical and Moving Parts: The fan motors are factory-lubricated and do not require additional lubrication. Electrical components are integrated and not user-serviceable. DO NOT open any panels.
  • Storage: Store the heater in a clean, dry place when not in use.
  • Temperature Limiting Control: The heater is equipped with a temperature limiting control that automatically turns off if it reaches an unsafe temperature. To reset, remove power for 5 minutes, inspect for blocked vents, clean if necessary, and then reapply power. If the issue persists, have the outlet and wiring inspected by a professional.
  • Odor: A slight odor may be present when the heater is first turned on, which is normal and should dissipate unless the heater has been unused for an extended period.
