(3) Tighten all screws.
-CAUTION-
Speedbrakes are electrically actuated. DO
NOT manually operate.
(4) Test operation of SpeedBrakes on the
ground, by activating cockpit switch, to assure there is
no binding either up of down.
Air loads on SpeedBrakes can cause slightly different
alignment during deployment; therefore it is recom-
mended that a test flight be done to test operation of
SpeedBrake system to verify proper operation. Re-
adjust alignment of cartridge to wings slots until proper
operation in flight is obtained.
27-96-02 − SPEEDBRAKE MAINTENANCE
SERIES 2000 SPEEDBRAKE SYSTEM
-CAUTION-
Do Not Operate the speedbrakes by hand while
electrical power is on. Damage to cartridges
and personal injuries may result.
Every 50 Hours:
1. Check cap strip cover screws and SpeedBrake top
attachment screws for security. If loose, remove
screws and apply Loctite 242, re−torque to 8 in. lbs.
2. Check drain tubes for debris.
At Annual Inspection:
1. Remove SpeedBrake per SpeedBrake Removal
instructions provided in earlier text this page.
2. Remove cover plate from SpeedBrake cartridge.
3. Clean and inspect unit for damage, corrosion,
looseness and proper operation.
4. Lubricate worm and worm gear (Aeroshell No. 22).
-CAUTION-
Do not spray lubricants on SpeedBrakes.
Damage to cartridges and SpeedBrake clutch
may result.
5. Connect electrical plugs and reinstall cartridges
into each wing. Install screws and apply Loctite 242;
re−torque to 8 in. lbs.
Every 1000 hours:
1. Remove the SpeedBrake cartridges in accor-
dance with SECTION 27−96−01.
A. Return SpeedBrake cartridges to Precise Flight
Inc. for Clutch Lubrication and Spring replacement.
B. Reinstall cartridges, when returned from Pre-
cise Flight Inc., into wings in accordance with SEC-
TION 27−96−01.
Every 5000 hours:
1. Remove the SpeedBrake cartridges in accor-
dance with SECTION 27−96−01.
A. Return SpeedBrake cartridges to Precise Flight
Inc. for Drive Assembly replacement.
B. Reinstall cartridges, when returned from Pre-
cise
Flight Inc., into wings in accordance with SEC-
TION 27−96−01.

SpeedBrake 2000
Cartridge Fails to Open Check circuit breaker.
Check cannon plugs for security.
If SpeedBrake doors open, check that doors stop
approximately 1/4inch before being fully vertical.
There should be no gap between SpeedBrake doors.
If doors open beyond this position, contact Precise
Flight, Inc.

The GSA 8X servo actuator is an electromechanical
unit that provides automatic control of a single flight
axis (pitch, roll, or yaw), or their associated trims. The
GSA 8X contains a motor−control and monitor circuit
board, as well as a solenoid and a brushless DC motor,
all enclosed in an extruded aluminum housing. Refer to
Mooney M20V Service & Maintenance Manual Chap-
ter 22 for more detailed information.
The GSA 8X receives serial RS−485 data packets from
two GIA 6X units, which contain data from the flight di-
rector, the GRS 79 AHRS, and the GDC 72 Air Data
Computer. The motor−control board processes this in-
coming data and drives the brushless motor as neces-
sary to obtain the desired aircraft response. The mo-
nitor board independently monitors the servo speed,
monitors the output torque, and controls the engage-
ment of the drive−clutch solenoid.
The GSM 86 servo mount is mounted to the aircraft
structure, via a custom mounting bracket, and is re-
sponsible for transferring the output torque of the GSA
8X servo actuator to the mechanical flight control sur-
face linkage.
Install a Circuit Breaker Placard labeled Trim Adapter
as indicated in FAA Advisory Circular
AC 43.13−2A, paragraph 27c(4).
