H. Connect the Porta-Test Manifold Pressure and
Upper Deck Pressure hose to the engine according to
the Porta-Test instructions.
I. Torque all connections according to Appendix B
specifications of the TSIO-550 Service and Mainte-
nance Manual.
J. Position the throttle control to the FULL OPEN
position and the mixture control to FULL RICH. Turn
auxiliary fuel pump (LOW BOOST switch) - ON. Loos-
en hose fitting on pressure port of test gauge until a
stream of fuel runs from fitting, retighten fitting, then
turn auxiliary fuel pump OFF.
-WARNING-
Drain all fuel from induction system p rior to
attempting engine start. Failure to comply may
result in hydraulic lo ck and subsequent engine
failure.
K. Install the engine cowling or cooling shroud dur-
ing ground operation.
CALIBRATED GAUGES SETUP
1. INSTALL TEST GAUGES/FITTINGS
A. Loosen the unmetered fuel supply hose from ei-
ther the fuel pump outlet fitting or the fuel control inlet
fitting, depending on access to connections. (Fig.
71- 3).
B. Connect one MS51523-B4 swivel tee to the fuel
connection loosened in Step A.
-NOTE-
Some installations may require a number of fit-
tings to adapt the metered and unmetered test
equipment to the fuel injection system.
C. Connect the unmetered fuel supply hose to the
straight end of the tee connector.
D. Connect the 0-60 psi Unmetered Pressure hose to
the tee connector with a hose.
E. Remove the cap from the metered fuel port fitting
on the fuel manifold valve.
F. Disconnect an upper deck pressure fitting at the
throttle body or intake manifold. Install an MS51523-B4
swivel tee in-line with the upper deck pressure fittings.
G. Connect two equal lengths of hose to the 0-30 psid
metered pressure test hose to the metered pressure
fuel port on the fuel manifold valve fitting.
a. Connect the pressure hose from the differential
pressure gauge to the metered pressure fuel port on
the fuel manifold valve fitting.
b. Connect the “Suction” side hose the the tee
installed in the upper deck pressure line installed in
Step F.
H. Torque all connections according to Appendix B
specifications of the CMI TSIO-550 Service and Main-
tenance Manual.
I.PositionthethrottlecontroltotheFULLOPENposi-
tion and the mixture control to FULL RICH. Turn auxilia-
ry fuel pump (LOW BOOST switch) - ON.
-NOTE-
Gauges must remain at the same height or above
the fuel injection system components under test
for the duration of t he operational check. Indi-
cated fuel pressure at the gauge will increase if
the gauges are below the fuel injection system,
causing erroneous indications.
J. Loosen the test connections at each gauge to
bleed the lines of air. Hold the gauge at, or slightly
above, the height of fuel system components to allow
the fuel to force the air out of the lines. Operate the
(LOW BOOST switch) only long enough to purge the air
from the fuel system. Retighten and torque all connec-
tions according to Appendix B specifications of the
TSIO-550 Service and Maintenance Manual.
-WARNING-
Drain all fuel from induction system prior to
attempting engine start. Failure to comply may
result in hydraulic lock and subsequent engine
failure.
K. Install the engine cowling or cooling shroud dur-
ing ground operation.
2. IDLE FUEL PRESSURE
Check and adjust idle fuel pressure as follows:
A. Back off idle speed adjusting screw two turns
(Fig. 71- 3).
B. Start engine and warm up at 1500 to 1800 RPM
until oil pressure is in GREEN BAND, CHT indicator is
GREEN and oil temperature is 160 - 180 F.
C. While maintaining 600 RPM, using cockpit
throttle control, set idle fuel pressure to 7-9 PSI by ad-
justing low unmetered pressure adjustment screw (Fig.
71- 3) located on engine pump centerline. Mixture con-
trol must be full rich and test equipment (installed in
step(s) 1, above held at approximately same level as
engine driven fuel pump. (Clockwise adjustment of
screw increases pressure). Also refer to CMI Service
Information Directive SID97- 3(G) or latest revision.
-NOTE-
Lightly tap fuel pump after each adjustment.
3. IDLE MIXTURE
Check and adjust idle mixture as follows:
-CAUTION-
Do not adjust idle mixture without first deter-
mining that idle pump pressure is correct.
