In order to maintain the combustion process, the entire grate area must remain covered by
glowing coals. If the coal layer is too shallow you will have less heat and it would not be nec-
essary to supply air via the top vent.
You must empty the ash pan whenever it becomes full. Different fuels have different ash con-
tent and therefore the regularity of the de-ashing process can vary.
Fuel storage
Your fuel supply should always be stored in a suitable, weather-tight coal bunker. These are
usually available through your approved coal merchant.
