Good advice
If the Morso stove smokes or does not heat - check the following:
If the stove smokes or burns poorly the usual cause is a reduced chimney draught.
If the stove is cold it might help to ignite some crumpled paper in the cleaning door of
the chimney before establishing a fire in the stove.
The chimney and/or the stove pipe may be obstructed.
Leaks in the chimney reduce the draught.
The chimney may be too low. The chimney has to be built according to the local building
code, which in most cases means that the top of the chimney must rise at least
1m above the ridge of the roof.

Overview

The Morso 1412 Squirrel Wood Burning Fireplace is a classic radiant wood stove designed to efficiently heat small rooms. It features a traditional design adorned with Morso's signature squirrel motif on both sides, making it a decorative as well as functional addition to any home. This versatile cast-iron stove is suitable for various fuel types, including wood, briquettes, coal, or energy coke, offering flexibility for users. It is particularly well-suited for small homes, holiday homes, or any space with limited heating requirements, providing a powerful heat source that quickly warms areas up to 800 sq ft.

One of the key usage features of the Morso 1412 is its comprehensive combustion system. It comes equipped with a riddling grate, an ash tray, and an ashpan, which significantly simplify the process of removing ash and cleaning the stove. This design ensures that maintenance is straightforward and convenient for the user. Furthermore, the stove incorporates Morso's advanced combustion system with an air wash feature. This technology is designed to keep the glass clean, ensuring that users always have a clear view of the flames, provided the stove is fired correctly. This enhances the aesthetic appeal and user experience by minimizing the need for frequent glass cleaning.

For optimal performance and longevity, proper maintenance and usage practices are recommended. If the stove exhibits issues such as smoking or poor heating, the primary cause is often a reduced chimney draught. Several factors can contribute to this. If the stove is cold, igniting crumpled paper in the chimney's cleaning door can help establish a draught before starting a fire in the stove. Obstructions in the chimney and/or the stove pipe can also impede draught, necessitating inspection and clearing. Leaks in the chimney system can similarly reduce draught efficiency. Another critical factor is the chimney's height; it must be constructed in accordance with local building codes, typically requiring the top of the chimney to extend at least 1 meter above the roof's ridge to ensure proper draw and prevent downdraughts. Environmental factors such as large trees, neighboring buildings, hills, and other landscape conditions can also create downdraughts, impacting the stove's performance.

Regarding fuel, while the stove can operate with virtually any wood, it is strongly advised to avoid wet or green (unseasoned) wood. For best results and to ensure the stove's longevity, firewood should be seasoned for a minimum of one year, with two years being preferable. It is also crucial to avoid using wood that has been exposed to salt water, such as driftwood or wood from fish boxes. Salt is highly corrosive and can significantly reduce the lifespan of both the stove and the chimney, leading to premature wear and damage.

Regular maintenance of the chimney is essential for safety and efficiency. The chimney should be swept at least every two years. Additionally, it is recommended to perform general maintenance on the fireplace during the summer months when it is not in active use. This proactive approach helps ensure that the stove remains in good working condition, operates efficiently, and provides reliable heating for many years. Adhering to these guidelines will help users maximize the performance and extend the life of their Morso 1412 Squirrel Wood Burning Fireplace.
