The Motorola Solutions APX™ N30 is a two-way radio designed for mission-critical communications, offering a range of features for efficient and secure operation. This model is part of the APX™ Two-Way Radios series, specifically Model 2, and its user guide was published in June 2022.

Function Description:

The APX™ N30 radio serves as a comprehensive communication tool, supporting various call types including Talkgroup, Private, Selective, and Telephone calls in both conventional and trunking modes. It integrates advanced features like Automatic Registration Service (ARS) for automated data application registration, ensuring the device is always connected to the system. The radio also supports Dynamic Zone Programming (DZP) for storing frequently used channels and Zone-to-Zone Cloning for transferring conventional zone configurations between radios. For enhanced safety, it includes an Emergency feature with Emergency Alarm, Emergency Call, and Emergency Alarm with Emergency Call modes, which can be activated via the Top (Orange) button. The Fall Alert (Man Down) feature provides an alternative way to activate emergency mode, triggering an alert tone and displaying "Man Down" if the radio detects a tilt angle threshold or lack of motion.

Connectivity is a key aspect of the APX™ N30, featuring SmartConnect for seamless switching between broadband connection types and Land Mobile Radio (LMR), Wi-Fi for wireless programming, and Bluetooth® for connecting to external Motorola Solutions accessories like headsets and remote speaker microphones. The radio also supports ASTRO 25 (P25) Programming Over Project 25 (POP25) for over-the-air firmware and configuration upgrades, ensuring the device stays current without interrupting communication. Location services are provided through the Global Navigation Satellite System (GNSS), integrating GPS information to determine the radio's geographical location, which can be displayed in various formats including Military Grid Reference System (MGRS), latitude, and longitude. The Mission Critical Geofence feature (ASTRO 25 Trunking) automatically connects the radio to a dynamic regroup talkgroup and provides intelligent lighting and voice announcements when entering a predefined geographical area.

For secure operations, the APX™ N30 offers encryption capabilities with Multikey features, allowing the radio to be equipped with different encryption keys that can be operator-selectable or erased. It supports MDC OTAR (Conventional Only) for over-the-air rekeying in secure encrypted mode and Infinite UKEK Retention to permanently store Unique Key Encryption Keys. The Hear Clear noise reduction system, comprising Companding and Random FM Noise Canceller, enhances audio clarity during transmissions. Additional features include Scan for monitoring traffic on different channels, Scan Lists for managing programmed channels, and Transmit Inhibit to prevent transmissions in hazardous environments. The radio also supports Remote Monitor, allowing system administrators to remotely activate the microphone of a targeted radio in critical situations. Voice Announcement (VA) provides audible indications of the current feature mode, zone, or channel, and Site Selectable Alerts (SSA) notify users of special situations at specific sites with intelligent lighting and audio alerts.

The GPS feature provides an approximate location, usually within 10 meters, and updates coordinates every five seconds when a signal is present. The radio is designed to be submerged to a maximum depth of 6 feet (2 meters with antenna attached) for a maximum of 2 hours.

Usage Features:

The APX™ N30 features a user-friendly interface with a display screen and keypad. The On/Off/Volume Control knob allows users to power the radio on/off and adjust volume. A Channel Selector knob facilitates channel selection. Programmable buttons (1-Dot, 2-Dot, 3-Dot, and Top Orange) can be customized for various radio functions, including activating basic voice control (ViQi), emergency operations, Bluetooth on/off, and accessing menus. The 4-Way Navigation buttons enable menu navigation and interface selection. ViQi, a virtual assistant, allows users to manage the radio and perform information lookups using voice commands such as "Battery level," "Channel," "Go to home," "Preset ," "Default profile," "Loud audio profile," "Surveillance profile," "Start scanning," "Stop scanning," and volume adjustments. ViQi Virtual Partner can also look up information like license plates, driver's licenses, and Vehicle ID Numbers (VINs) using commands like "Look up...," "Check...," and "Run a...."

The radio's display includes a Home Screen with a Dark Mode Status Bar and Bright Mode Status Bar for device status and notifications, a Radio Control Widget for zone, channel, trunking status, and call state, and a Notification Widget for recent text messages. Status icons indicate battery level, broadband network activity, Bluetooth® status, GPS availability, and transmit/receive activity. Intelligent Lighting Indicators on the Top Lightbar and display screen change color to signal events like emergency alerts (orange), critical alerts (red), and call alerts (green). The radio also supports adjusting the display backlight, editing time and date, and locking/unlocking controls to prevent inadvertent input. The Time-Out Timer automatically turns off the transmitter after a preset duration.

Maintenance Features:

Proper radio care is emphasized, including recommendations against poking or obstructing the vent port, ensuring no oily substances contact it, and drying battery contacts if exposed to water. The radio should be rinsed and cleaned immediately if exposed to corrosive environments. Users are advised not to disassemble the radio, as maintenance should only be performed by qualified radio technicians or UL-approved service centers. Batteries should be charged for a minimum of 16 hours before initial use to ensure optimum capacity. Motorola Solutions offers optional extended service contracts, including Device Managed Services (DMS) for accidental damage and standard hardware repair, which cover repairs at designated Motorola Solutions repair depots. The company participates in the Call2Recycle program for battery collection and recycling in the U.S. and Canada.
