Protect your phone
» Set screen timeout: After setting the lock type, tap for screen lock settings. Tap Lock after
screen timeout to change when to lock after screen timeout (except when kept unlocked by
Extend Unlock).
Tip: To change when your touchscreen goes to sleep, swipe up from the home screen and tap
Settings > Display > Screen timeout.
» Hide your pattern or PIN: After setting a pattern or PIN, tap next to Screen lock. If you have set
a pattern, tap the switch next to Make pattern visible to turn it off. Then your phone will not show
the pattern you're drawing. If you have set a PIN, tap the switch next to Enhanced PIN privacy to
turn it on. Then your phone will not show a ashing animation on the numbers you're tapping.
Note: You can make emergency calls on a locked phone (see Emergency calls). A locked phone still
rings, and you do not need to enter a PIN or password to answer a call.
Unlock with your ngerprint
You can use the ngerprint sensor (see First look for the sensor location) to unlock your phone,
authorize purchases, or sign in to apps.
Find it: Swipe up from the home screen and tap Settings > Security & privacy > Device unlock >
Fingerprint
Tip: You need to set a backup screen lock rst such as a pattern, PIN, or password before adding a
ngerprint.
» Enroll your ngerprint: Follow the on-screen prompts to record your ngerprint. When nished,
tap Done, or tap Add another to add another ngerprint.
» Add more ngerprints: Tap Add ngerprint. You can add up to 5 ngerprints.
» Remove your ngerprint: Tap next to a ngerprint to delete it.
» Rename your ngerprint: Tap a ngerprint name, then type a new name and tap OK.
Unlock with your face
Unlock your phone by looking at it.
Caution: Face unlock is less secure than a pattern, PIN, or password. Someone who looks like you
could unlock your phone.
