  If your Motorola TV Receiver remote control isn't working, first ensure it's in “set-top” mode. Make sure there are no obstructions between the remote and the receiver. Aim the remote directly at the receiver's front panel, not the TV or VCR, and ensure you're not too far to either side or at too large of an angle. Press operation keys one at a time, firmly and deliberately. Try changing channels using the buttons on the receiver's front panel. Finally, check and replace the batteries in the remote if needed.

  If you're not getting audio from the center and/or surround speakers of a home theater receiver connected to your Motorola TV Receiver, first verify that the S/PDIF cable (coaxial or optical) is firmly connected to both the receiver and the home theater receiver. Ensure that the home theater receiver is set to a surround sound audio mode like Dolby Digital, Dolby Pro Logic II®, or Dolby Pro Logic®. Also, verify that the receiver is properly configured to work with all connected speakers. Keep in mind that not all Dolby Digital® programs feature full 5.1 surround sound.

You can try turning on the 4:3 OVERRIDE feature in the User Settings menu. If you have a widescreen TV connected to the QIP7100 Series, ensure the TV TYPE is set to 16:9 in the User Settings menu. Many HD programs are broadcast in pillar-box format with these black bars, even in 16:9 HD formats.

  If you see black bars on all four sides of the picture with your Motorola TV Receiver, this can happen on a 4:3 TV if the 4:3 OVERRIDE setting is OFF. To fill the screen with 4:3 SD programming, set 4:3 OVERRIDE to 480i or 480p, depending on your TV's capabilities. This can also occur on a 16:9 TV if the active video for an SD broadcast is in letterbox format. Broadcasters may also include black bars on either side of a widescreen broadcast, creating a “hybrid” aspect ratio. You may be able to minimize the border using the zoom feature on the TV.
