Chapter One:
How Do I Get Started with the Motorola Xoom?
You’ll also access the Open Apps menu quite oen. This icon, located on
the top-right corner of every Xoom screen, offers access to apps currently
hidden away and out of sight. If you can’t see it, you’re in an app. Tap the
Home buon to return to the Home screen, where it is accessible. Tap the
Open Apps menu, and you access the screen shown in Figure 1-7.
Figure 1-7 Tap the Apps icon (oen referred to as the Open Apps icon) to access the
apps stowed away and out of sight.
In the top-le corner of the screen are two options for searching with
Google. Tap the Google magnifying glass to type search keywords, or tap the
microphone to speak your query. When typing keywords, you have access to
two sets of results: what’s on the Internet and what’s on your Xoom. Tap any
result to view it.
If you opt to use the microphone to speak your keywords, what happens
aer you speak depends on what you say. For instance, if you say, “Send an
email to Jane,” Gmail opens and a new email appears. It may well include the
recipient’s name in the To line. If you say, “Where is the Statue of Liberty,
the Browser opens and the results of the search appear. To see what you
can do with voice-activated searches, tap the Microphone icon, and if appli-
cable, tap Help. (Help appears by default the first time you use the app.) See
Figure 1-8.
