USING THE MOWER
Your new lawnmower combines three dierent functions in the same machine:
1. “MULCHING”
The machine comes equipped with a plug (P),installed in the discharge chute
(gure 6). The machine can be used for ‘Mulching’ i.e. the grass is cut and re-
cut into small particles which are blown deep into the turf out of sight to return
nutrients to the soil. To remove the plug release the pins by pressing at R and
lift the plug up and out of the discharge chute. When retting the plug ensure
that both pins are pressed rmly into the holes so that the plug snaps in place.
2. COLLECTION
Remove the mulching plug and t the collector onto the rear of the
machine. When mowing, the grass is collected in the collector. Empty the
grass onto the compost heap or spread it over borders as fertiliser.

3. REAR EJECTION
Use the mower without the plug or the grass collector (but with the deector ap in place). Grass will be cut and
discharged to the rear of the machine.
STARTING YOUR MOWER
Read and understand the Safety Precautions before using your mower.
Put Mounteld 4-stroke, or an SAE 10W-30 oil, in the oil ller (Figure 7). Do not overll, the oil tank capacity is 0,55
litres. Mounteld oil, part number MX855, is available from any Mounteld stockist or B&Q store.
Fill the fuel tank with UNLEADED petrol. Use only clean, fresh petrol - stale fuel may contain deposits that will
clog the carburettor. Unleaded fuel can start to go stale after just 28 days. Do not overll, the petrol level should be
below the bottom of the fuel tank neck. Do not over tighten the fuel cap. The fuel cap breathes through the threads
of the cap and over tightening can cause the engine to cut out.
Ensure that the spark plug lead is securely connected to the spark plug.

Turn on the fuel tap which is located beside the air lter (Close up in Figure 7).
Pull and hold the Operator Presence Control (OPC) lever against the handle to disengage the engine brake.
THE ENGINE WILL NOT START, OR CONTINUE TO RUN, UNLESS THE OPC LEVER IS HELD AGAINST
THE HANDLE
Pull the starter cord with a strong smooth pull. Do not remove the pull cord from the guide.
To engage the drive to the rear wheels on Self Propelled models, pull and hold the clutch lever against the handle
To stop the drive, release the clutch lever.
STOPPING YOUR MOWER
Release the Operator Presence Control (OPC) lever; this will engage the engine brake and operate the ignition
safety cut out device..
ADJUSTING THE HEIGHT OF CUT
The height of cut adjustment not only determines the length of the cut grass, it also controls the airow which carries
clippings into the collector. If the discharge chute becomes blocked, increase the airow by raising the height of cut.
To prevent blockages when cutting long, thick grass, set the adjustment to the highest setting and cut the grass; then
cut it again on a lower setting:
