Overview

This document serves as a comprehensive user manual for the Optix Series LCD Monitors, specifically covering the Optix AG321CR and Optix AG321CQR models. It provides essential information for setting up, operating, and maintaining the monitor, ensuring users can maximize their viewing comfort and device longevity.

Function Description

The Optix Series LCD Monitor is designed to provide an immersive visual experience with its advanced display capabilities. It functions as a primary or secondary display unit for personal computers and other compatible devices. The monitor features a multi-directional Navi Key for intuitive navigation through its On-Screen Display (OSD) menus, allowing users to customize various settings to suit their preferences.

The OSD menus are categorized into several sections: Gaming, Professional, Image, Input Source, PIP/PBP (optional), Navi Key, and Setting. Each section offers a range of adjustable parameters to optimize the display for different uses, from competitive gaming to professional work and general media consumption.

Gaming Features: The Gaming menu provides specialized settings to enhance the gaming experience. Users can select from various Game Modes, including User, FPS, Racing, RTS, and RPG, each pre-configured to optimize visuals for specific game genres. Night Vision is a unique feature that brightens dark areas of the screen without overexposing brighter regions, giving gamers an advantage in dimly lit game environments. Response Time can be adjusted to reduce motion blur, with options like Normal, Fast, and Fastest. MPRT (Moving Picture Response Time) further minimizes blur by strobing the backlight, though it has certain compatibility limitations with other features like FreeSync and HDCR. Zero Latency is available to reduce input lag, ensuring a more responsive gaming experience. The Refresh Rate setting allows users to monitor and adjust the display's refresh rate, with a customizable on-screen display for its location. An Alarm Clock feature can be set to remind users of breaks or other time-sensitive events during extended sessions. Screen Assistance provides on-screen overlays, such as crosshairs, to aid in aiming. FreeSync Premium/Adaptive-Sync technology is integrated to prevent screen tearing and stuttering, ensuring smooth gameplay.

Professional Features: For professional use, the monitor offers Pro Modes such as User, Anti-Blue, Movie, Office, and sRGB. The Anti-Blue mode is designed to reduce blue light emission, protecting users' eyes during prolonged work. The Low Blue Light function, when enabled, adjusts the screen color temperature to a warmer, more yellow glow, further reducing eye strain. HDCR (High Dynamic Contrast Ratio) enhances image quality by increasing the contrast, making details more pronounced.

Image Customization: The Image menu allows for fine-tuning of basic display parameters. Brightness and Contrast can be adjusted to achieve optimal visual comfort and clarity. Sharpness settings enhance the definition of image edges, improving overall image detail. Color Temperature can be set to Cool, Normal, Warm, or customized by adjusting individual Red, Green, and Blue color values. Screen Size options (Auto, 4:3, 16:9) ensure proper aspect ratio display for various content sources.

Input Source Management: The Input Source menu enables users to select between different video inputs, including HDMI1, HDMI2, and DisplayPort. An Auto Scan feature can be enabled or disabled to automatically detect active signal sources, which is particularly useful when the monitor is in power-saving mode or displaying a "No Signal" message.

PIP/PBP (Picture-in-Picture/Picture-by-Picture) (Optional): For enhanced multitasking, the monitor supports PIP and PBP functionalities. PIP allows a secondary video source to be displayed in an inset window on the main screen, with adjustable size (Small, Medium, Large) and location (Left Top, Right Top, Left Bottom, Right Bottom). PBP displays two input sources side-by-side. The Display Switch and Audio Switch features allow users to easily toggle between primary and secondary input sources and their corresponding audio.

Navi Key Customization: The Navi Key menu allows users to customize the hotkey functions of the multi-directional Navi Key. By default, moving the Navi Key up, down, left, or right when the OSD is inactive can access Game Mode, Screen Assistance, Alarm Clock, and Input Source, respectively. These assignments can be reconfigured to other OSD functions like Brightness, PIP/PBP Mode, Refresh Rate, Info. On Screen, and Night Vision.

General Settings: The Setting menu includes general monitor configurations. Transparency adjusts the OSD menu's opacity. OSD Time Out determines how long the OSD remains visible after inactivity. The RGB LED can be turned ON or OFF, controlling the monitor's ambient lighting. The Power Button behavior can be set to OFF (turns off the monitor) or Standby (turns off panel and backlight). Info. On Screen displays monitor status information. HDMI CEC (Consumer Electronics Control) enables seamless control and power synchronization with compatible audio-visual devices like Sony PlayStation® and Nintendo® Switch™. A Reset option allows users to restore all OSD settings to their original factory defaults.

Usage Features

The Optix Series monitors are designed for user-friendly operation and adjustment.

Physical Adjustments: The monitor stand allows for various ergonomic adjustments to maximize viewing comfort. Users can Tilt the display from -5° to 20°, Adjust Height by 0 to 90mm, Swivel the screen from -30° to 30°, and Pivot it from -5° to 5°. These adjustments help users find the optimal viewing angle and position, reducing strain during extended use. It's important to tilt the monitor backward slightly before pivoting to avoid damage. The reserved pivot of 5° is specifically designed to compensate for level imbalances on some tables.

Navi Key Control: The multi-directional Navi Key provides a quick and intuitive way to navigate the OSD menus. Pressing the OK button launches the OSD, enters submenus, and confirms selections. Moving the key up, down, left, or right allows for menu navigation, item selection, and value adjustment. When the OSD is inactive, the Navi Key acts as a hotkey for quick access to frequently used functions like Game Mode, Screen Assistance, Alarm Clock, and Input Source, which can be customized.

Connectivity: The monitors offer a variety of input and output ports for versatile connectivity. The AG321CR model includes one HDMI 1.4 port, one HDMI 2.0 port, one DisplayPort 1.2, one USB 2.0 Type-B Upstream Port, one Headphone Jack, and a Power Jack. The AG321CQR model features two HDMI 2.0 ports, one DisplayPort 1.2, one USB 3.0 Type-B Upstream Port, one Headphone Jack, and a Power Jack. The USB Upstream Port is crucial for enabling the USB Type-A Downstream Ports on the monitor, allowing users to connect peripherals directly to the display.

Power Management: The Power LED indicates the monitor's status: white when on, orange when no signal input, and orange in Stand-by mode. The Power Button can be configured to either completely turn off the monitor or put it into Standby mode, conserving energy.

Kensington Lock: A Kensington Lock slot is provided for security, allowing users to physically secure the monitor to a desk or other fixed object, preventing theft.

Maintenance Features

Proper maintenance ensures the longevity and optimal performance of the Optix Series LCD Monitors.

Cleaning: When cleaning the monitor, it is crucial to first remove the power plug. Use a soft cloth for cleaning; avoid industrial chemicals. Never pour any liquid into the monitor's openings, as this can cause damage or electric shock.

Cable Management: The monitor includes a Cable Routing Hole to help organize and manage cables, keeping the workspace tidy and preventing cable damage. Ensure power cords are placed where people are unlikely to step on them.

Environmental Considerations: The monitor is designed to operate within specific temperature and humidity ranges (0°C to 40°C, 20% to 90% non-condensing for operating; -20°C to 60°C, 10% to 90% non-condensing for storage). Avoid leaving the device in unconditioned environments with temperatures outside these ranges, as it can damage the device. The ventilator on the device should not be covered to ensure proper air convection and prevent overheating.

Safety Guidelines: Users should always read and follow the safety instructions provided in the manual. This includes ensuring the power voltage is within the safety range (100~240V) and that the device is connected to an earthed mains socket-outlet. Disconnect the power cord or switch off the wall socket if the device will be unused for an extended period to achieve zero energy consumption. Keep strong magnetic or electrical objects away from the monitor.

Troubleshooting: The manual provides a troubleshooting section to help users resolve common issues such as the power LED being off, no image on screen, improper screen sizing or centering, Plug & Play issues, fuzzy or blurry images, color problems, and screen flickering or waves. Solutions include checking cable connections, adjusting display settings, updating graphics drivers, and ensuring proper installation.

Eye Comfort: To mitigate eye fatigue and discomfort from extended screen use, the monitor incorporates TÜV Rheinland Low Blue Light and Flicker Free certifications. Users are advised to place the screen 20-28 inches (50-70 cm) away and slightly below eye level, blink consciously, take 20-minute breaks every 2 hours, gaze at distant objects during breaks, and perform stretches. Utilizing the Reader/Anti-Blue mode or the Low Blue Light function is also recommended.

Product Longevity and Sustainability: The monitor is designed with green product features, including reduced energy consumption, limited use of harmful substances, and ease of dismantling and recycling. MSI encourages users to contact local authorized collection points for recycling end-of-life products, contributing to environmental sustainability. The design supports extended product lifetime through easy upgrades and aims to reduce solid waste.
