Moving the Tractor Manually
Yourtractor'stransmissionisequippedwitha reliefvalve
foroccasionswhenitisnecessaryto movethetractor
manuallyActivatingthisvalveforcesthetransmission
fluidtobypassitsnormalroute,allowingthe reartires
to"freewheel."Toengagethe reliefvalve,proceedas
follows:
Locatethe hydrostaticbypassrodintherearof
thetractor.See Fig.4-5

Pullthe hydrostaticbypassrodoutward,then
down,tolockit in place.
NOTE: ThetransmissionwillNOTengagewhenthe
hydrostaticbypassrodis pulledout. Returnthe rodto its
normalpositionpriortooperatingthetractor.
IMPORTANT:Neverattempttomovethetractormanu-
allywithoutfirstengagingthe reliefvalve.Doingso may
damagethetractor'stransmission.
Setting The Cruise Control
NOTE:Thecruisecontrolfeatureshouldonly beutilized
whiletravelinginthe forwarddirection.
Slowlypressthe upperportionofthedrive pedaluntil
thedesiredspeedisachieved.
Lightlypressthecruisecontrollever.
Whilecontinuingto holdthecruiseleverdown,lift
yourfootfromthedrivepedal(you shouldfeel the
cruiselatchengage).
Onceengaged,the cruisecontrolleverandthedrive
pedalwilllock inthe "down"position,andthe tractor
willmaintainthesameforwardspeed.
NOTE:Cruisecontrolcannotbe engagedatthe
tractor'sfastestgroundspeed.Iftheoperatorshould
attempttodoso,thetractorwill automaticallydecelerate
tothefastestoptimalmowinggroundspeed.
Disengagethecruisecontrolusingoneofthe following
methods:
1. Depressthe brakepedalto disengagethecruise
controlandstopthetractor.
2. Lightlydepressthedrivepedal.
Tochangethe directionof travelto reversewhen
operatingwithcruisecontrol,depressthebrakepedal
todisengagethecruisecontrolandbringthetractortoa
completestop.Thenslowlydepressthe rearportionof the
drivepedalwiththe ballof yourfoottotravelin reverse.
Engaging the Blades
EngagingthePTO(BladeEngage)transferspowerto the
cuttingdeckor other(separatelyavailable)attachments.
Toengagetheblades,proceedas follows:
1. Movethethrottlecontrollevertothe FAST(rabbit)
position.
2. Pullthe PTO(BladeEngage)knoboutwardintothe
engaged(ON)position.

Keepthethrottleleverinthe FAST(rabbit)position
forthemostefficientuseofthe cuttingdeckor other
(separatelyavailable)attachments
IMPORTANT:Theengine(onmodelswitha manualPTO)
orelectric PTOclutch(on modelswith anelectricPTO)
willautomaticallyshutoff if the PTOis engagedwiththe
drivepedalin positionfor reversetravelwiththeignition
keyinthe NORMALMOWINGposition.Referto Safety
InterlockSwitchesearlierin thissection.
Using the Deck Lift Lever
Toraisethecuttingdeck,movethedecklift leverto the
left,thenplaceit inthe notchbestsuitedforyour applica-
tion.Referto SettingThe CuttingHeightearlierin this
section.
Mowing

cuttingdeckwith yourtractor:

Do not mowat highgroundspeed,especiallyif a
mulchkit orgrasscollectoris installed.
Forbestresultsit is recommendedthatthefirsttwo
lapsbe cutwiththedischargethrowntowardsthe
center.Afterthefirst twolaps, reversethedirectionto
throwthedischargetotheoutsideforthe balanceof
cutting.Thiswill givea betterappearanceto the lawn.
