How to fix MTD 21AA414A729 engine that fails to start?
    • J
      jeremy43Aug 7, 2025
If the MTD Tiller engine won't start, several factors could be at play. First, ensure the fuel tank isn't empty or filled with stale fuel; if so, replenish with clean, fresh gasoline. Note that fuel degrades after thirty days without a stabilizer. Next, verify the throttle control lever is in the correct starting position and that the choke is in the ON position. Also, check for a blocked fuel line and clean it if necessary. Make sure the spark plug wire is connected securely. If the spark plug is faulty, clean, adjust the gap, or replace it. Lastly, consider the possibility of a flooded engine.

Why does my MTD Tiller engine run erratic?
    • M
      Mike JordanAug 26, 2025
An MTD Tiller engine running erratically can stem from several causes. Check if the unit is running on CHOKE and move the choke lever to the OFF position. Ensure the spark plug wire is securely connected and tightened. A blocked fuel line or stale fuel can also cause issues; clean the fuel line and refill the tank with fresh gasoline, using a fuel stabilizer if the fuel will sit for over thirty days. Additionally, a plugged vent in the gas cap, or water/dirt in the fuel system could be the culprit; clear the vent, or drain and refill the fuel tank.
