  If your MTD Lawn Mower engine runs erratically, consider these possible causes: * The unit might be running with the CHOKE activated. Move the throttle control out of the CHOKE position. * Spark plug wires might be loose. Connect and tighten the spark plug wire. * The fuel line might be blocked, or the fuel might be stale. Clean the fuel line, fill the tank with clean, fresh gasoline, and replace the fuel filter if equipped. * The vent in the gas cap might be plugged. Clear the vent or replace the cap if damaged. * There might be water or dirt in the fuel system. Drain the fuel tank and refill it with clean, fresh gasoline. * The air cleaner might be dirty. Replace the air cleaner paper element or clean the foam precleaner if equipped.
