Speed Control Lever
Thespeedcontrollever,locatedon the
leftsideofthetractor'sdashconsole,
allowsyouto regulatethegroundspeed
ofthelawntractor.To use,depressthe
clutch-brakepedalandmovetheleverou
oftheparkingbrakenotchand forward
toincreasethetractor'sgroundspeed.
Whenadesiredspeedhas beenreached
releasethe leverintoan appropriate
notchto maintainthatspeed.
Toslowthe tractor'sgroundspeed,
depresstheclutch-brakepedalandmow
thespeedcontrolleverrearwardand
releaseit intoa notch.
NOTE:Lawntractorsvaryby modeland
areavailablewith eithera6- or 7-speed
controllever.
Parking Brake
Tosetthe parkingbrake,fullydepresstheclutch-brake
pedal.Movethe speedcontrolleverallthe waydown
andintothe parkingbrakeposition.Releasetheclutch-
brakepedalto allowtheparkingbraketo engage.
Toreleasethe parkingbrake,depresstheclutch-brake
pedaland movethe speedcontrolleverout of the
notchesto the desiredposition.Releasethe speed
controlleverandthe clutch-brakepedal.
NOTE:The parkingbrakemustbeset if theoperator
leavestheseatwiththe enginerunningor theengine
willautomaticallyshutoff.
Clutch=Brake Pedal
Theclutch-brakepedalis locatedon theleftsideof
thelawntractor,alongthe runningboard.Depressthe
clutch-brakepedalpartwaydownwhenslowingthe
tractorby changingspeeds(Referto SpeedControl
Lever).Depressthe pedalall thewaydowntoengage
thedisc brakeand bringthetractorto a completestop.
NOTE:The pedalmustbedepressedto startthe

Shift Lever
Theshift leveris locatedonthe leftsideof thefender
andhasthree positions,FORWARD,NEUTRALand
REVERSE.Thebrakepedalmustbe depressedand
thetractor mustnotbe in motionwhenthe movingshift
lever.SeeFigure11.
IMPORTANT:Neverforcetheshift lever.Doingso may
resultinseriousdamageto the tractor'stransmission.
PTO (Blade Engage) Lever
Foundon thetractor'sright fender,the
PTO(bladeengage)leverisusedto
engagepowerto the cuttingdeckor
other(separatelyavailable)attachments.
Tooperate,movethe leverall the way
forward.Movingthe leveralltheway
rearwardintothePTOOFFposition

attachment.

Safety Interlock Switches
Thistractoris equippedwitha safetyinterlocksystem
fortheprotectionoftheoperator.If the interlocksystem
shouldevermalfunction,donotoperatethe tractor.
ContactanauthorizedMTDservicedealer.
• Thesafetyinterlocksystempreventstheengine
fromcrankingor startingunlesstheparkingbrakeis
engaged,and the PTO(BladeEngage)leveris inthe
disengaged(OFF)position.
• Theenginewill automaticallyshutoff if theoperator
leavestheseatbeforeengagingtheparkingbrake.
• Theenginewill automaticallyshutoff if theoperator
leavesthetractor'sseatwiththe PTO(BladeEngage)
leverinthe engaged(ON) position,regardlessof
whethertheparkingbrakeis engaged.
• Theenginewill automaticallyshutoff if theoperator
engagesthe PTOwiththeparkingbrakeON.
