WARNING
Be sure to shut the
engine off, remove ig-
nifion key, disconnect
the spark plugwire(s)
and ground against
the engineto prevent
unintended starting
before removing the
elt(s).
Avoidthe possibilityof
a pinching injury. Do
not placeyour fingers
on the idler springor
between the belt and a
pulley while removing
the belt.

Changing the Deck Belt & PTO Belt
Tochangeor replacethedeck beltandPTObelt onyour
tractor,proceedas follows:
1. Lowerthe deckby movingthedeck liftleverinto the
bottomnotchon therightfender.
2. Removethe beltguardsby removingthe self-tapping
screwsthatfastenthemto the deck.
3. Removethe beltkeeperrodfromaroundthe engine
pulley.
4. Inserta 3/8"-driveratchetwrench(setto loosen)into
thesquareholefoundin the idlerbracketontheleft
sideof the deck'ssurface.SeeFigure26.
5. Grasptheratchet'shandleandpivotit towardthe front
ofthetractorto relievetensiononthebelt.
6. Withbelttensionrelieved,carefullyremovethe belt
from around the left-handspindlepulley.
IMPORTANT:Carefullyallowtheratchetto pivotrearward
beforeremovingit fromthe squarehole.
_ WARNING: Be sure to shut
the engine off, remove ignition
-- key, disconnect the spark plug
wire(s) and ground against the
engine to prevent unintended
starting before removing the
belt(s).
Allbeltson yourtractorare subjectto wearandshould
bereplacedif anysignsofweararepresent.
iMPORTANT:TheV-beltsfoundon yourtractorare
speciallydesignedtoengageanddisengagesafely.A
substitute(non-OEM)V-beltcanbedangerousby not
disengagingcompletely.Fora properworkingmachine,
usefactoryapprovedbelts.
_ WARNING: Avoid the possibility

or between the belt and a pulley
while removingthe belt.
7. Removethe deckbelt fromaroundall pulleys,including
thedeckidlerpulley.
8. Routethe newbeltsasshownin andFigure27 and28.
9. Remountthe beltguardsremovedearlier.

NOTE:Severalcomponentsmustbe removedand
specialtools(i.e.air/impactwrench)inordertochange
thetractor'sdrivebelts. Seean authorizedMTDService
