WARNING

with a slope in excess
of 15 degrees (a rise
of approximately 2-1/2
feet every 10feet). The

Driving On Slopes
RefertotheSLOPEGAUGEon page3 to helpdeter-
mineslopeswhereyou mayoperatethe tractorsafely.

Mowupanddownslopes,NEVERacross.
Exerciseextremecautionwhenchangingdirection
on slopes.
Watchforholes,ruts,bumps,rocks,or otherhidden
objects.Uneventerraincouldoverturnthe machine.
Tallgrasscanhideobstacles.
Avoidturnswhendrivingona slope.Ifa turnmust
be made,turn downthe slope.Turningupa slope
greatlyincreasesthechanceof a rollover.
Avoidstoppingwhendrivingupa slope.If it is
necessarytostopwhiledrivingup aslope,startup
smoothlyandcarefullyto reducethe possibilityof
flippingthe tractoroverbackward.
Setting The Cruise Control
1. Placethe shiftleverinthe FORWARDposition,
thenslowlydepressthedrive pedaluntil the desired
speedisachieved.
2. Lightlydepressthecruisecontrolbutton.
3. Whilecontinuingtoholdthecruisebuttonin,liftyour
footfromthedrivepedal(youshouldfeelthe cruise
latchengage).
Onceengaged,the cruisecontrolbuttonandthedrive
pedalwilllockinthe"down"position,andthe tractorwill
maintainthesameforwardspeed.
NOTE:Cruisecontrolcannotbe engagedat the
tractor'sfastestgroundspeed.Ifthe operatorshould
attempttodoso,thetractorwillautomaticallydecelerate
tothefastestoptimalmowinggroundspeed.
Disengagethecruisecontrolusingoneofthefollowing
methods:
1. Depressthe brakepedalto disengagethecruise
controlandstopthetractor.
2. Lightlydepressthedrivepedal.
Tochangeto the reversedirectionwhenoperatingwith
cruisecontrol,depressthebrakepedalto disengagethe
cruisecontroland bringthe tractorto acompletestop.
Thenplacethe shift leverinthe REVERSEpositionand
depressthedrivepedal.
Engaging the Blades
EngagingthePTO(BladeEngage)transferspowerto the
cuttingdeckor other(separatelyavailable)attachments.
Toengagetheblades,proceedas follows:
1. Movethethrottlecontrolleverto the FAST(rabbit)
position.
Models with Manual PTO
2. a. Graspthe PTO(BladeEngage)leverandpivotit all
thewayforwardintotheengaged(ON)position.
Models with Electric PTO
b. PullthePTO(BladeEngage)knoboutwardintothe
engaged(ON)position.
3. Keepthethrottleleverinthe FAST(rabbit)position
forthemostefficientuseof the cuttingdeckor other
(separatelyavailable)attachments
IMPORTANT:Theengine(onmodelswitha manualPTO)
orelectricPTOclutch(on modelswith anelectricPTO)
willautomaticallyshutoff ifthe PTOis engagedwiththe
shiftleverinpositionforreversetravelwiththeignition
keyinthe NORMALMOWINGposition.Referto Safety
InterlockSwitchesearlierinthissection.
Using the Deck Lift Lever
Toraisethe cuttingdeck,movethe decklift levertothe
left,thenplaceit inthe notchbestsuitedforyourapplica-
tion.RefertoSettingTheCuttingHeightearlierinthis
section.
Mowing
