Attaching the Battery Cables
NOTE:Thepositivebatteryterminalis markedPos.(+).
Thenegativebatteryterminalis markedNeg.(-).
Thepositivecable(heavyredwire) is securedtothe
positivebatteryterminal(+)witha hexboltandhex
nutatthefactory.Beforeattachingthe negativecable,
removethebatterybyremovingthepositivecable
andhold-downstrap.Notethe dateon the sideofthe
battery.Ifthebatteryis putinto serviceafterthisdate,
chargethe batteryas instructedin the Maintaining
YourLawnTractorsectionof this manualpriorto
operatingthetractor.
Securebatterybackontothetractorwiththehold-
downstrap.Reattachthe positivecable (heavyred
wire)tothepositivebatteryterminal(+)withthe bolt
andnut.Makecertainthatthe rubberbootcoversthe
terminalto helpprotectit fromcorrosion.
Removethehexboltandwingnutfromthenegative
cable.
Removetheblackplasticcover,if present,fromthe
negativebatteryterminalandattachthenegative
cable(heavyblackwire)to the negativebattery
terminal(-) withthe bolt andnut.
Makecertainthehold-downstrapis in positionover
thebattery,securingitin place.SeeFigure1.
Gas and Oil Fill-up
Thegasolinetank is locatedunderthe hoodandhasa
capacityofeithertwoor threegallons.Do notoverfill.

isextremely flammable and the
vapors are explosive. Never fuel
machine indoorsor while the
engine is hot or running. Extin-
guish cigarettes, cigars, pipes,
and other sources of ignition.
Servicetheenginewithgasolineandoil as instructedin
theseparateEngineOperator/OwnerManualpackedwith
yourtractor.Readinstructionscarefully.
IMPORTANT:Yourtractoris shippedwith motoroil inthe
engine.However,youMUSTcheckthe oil levelbefore
operating.Becarefulnottooverfill.
