  If your MTD Lawn Mower engine isn't starting, ensure the safety lock system is correctly disengaged. This means sitting on the driver’s seat, moving both drive control levers into the outer Neutral recesses, engaging the locking brake, and switching OFF the PTO switch. Also, check that the battery is connected correctly (black cable to the (–) terminal and red cable to the (+) terminal). A depleted battery could also be the cause, so try charging it. Finally, inspect the fuse and replace it if it has tripped; repeated tripping suggests a short circuit.
