The MultiVac series offers a range of vacuum filtration systems designed for various laboratory applications. These systems are available in different configurations, including 3-place and 6-place aluminum multi-branch manifolds, and can be paired with either an oil-free vacuum pump or a diaphragm liquid pump.
Function Description:
The MultiVac systems are primarily used for vacuum filtration, a process that separates solids from liquids by drawing the liquid through a filter medium using a vacuum. The multi-branch manifold allows for simultaneous filtration of multiple samples, increasing efficiency in laboratory workflows. Depending on the model, the system can be configured with a vacuum pump for standard filtration or a diaphragm liquid pump for applications where the filtrate needs to be drained or collected.
Important Technical Specifications:
- Manifold:
- MultiVac 310-MS: 3 Places Aluminum Manifold with No.8 Stopper Funnel Adaptor.

- The manifold is made of aluminum, providing durability and chemical resistance.
- The outlet direction of the MultiVac manifold is interchangeable, allowing for flexible setup.
- Filter Holders:
- MF 3, 300 ml Magnetic Filter Holder: Used in MultiVac 310-MS-T, MultiVac 610-MS-T, MultiVac 310-MS-A, and MultiVac 610-MS-A systems.
- LF 3, 300 ml Spin-Lock Filter Holder: Available as an accessory (Part No. 197000-01).
- SS 3, 300 ml Stainless Steel Filter Holder: Available as an accessory (Part No. 167103-30).
- The magnetic filter holders facilitate easy membrane replacement.
- Pumps:
- Rocker 400, Oil Free Vacuum Pump: Used in MultiVac 310-MS-T and MultiVac 610-MS-T systems. Available in AC110V/60Hz and AC220V/50Hz versions (Part No. 167400-11/22). This pump creates a vacuum to pull liquid through the filter.
- Alligator 200 Diaphragm Liquid Pump: Used in MultiVac 310-MS-A and MultiVac 610-MS-A systems. Operates on AC100V-240V with US or EU plug adaptors (Part No. 181200-01/02). This pump is designed to actively pump liquid, either for filtration or for draining waste.
- Waste Bottle:
- 4000 ml Heavy Duty PP Waste Bottle with drain: Included in MultiVac 310-MS-T and MultiVac 610-MS-T systems (Part No. 167200-48). This bottle collects the filtrate and prevents it from entering the vacuum pump.
- Tubing:
- Silicone Tube (100 cm): Included with vacuum pump systems.
- Silicone Tube (15 cm) and (200 cm): Included with diaphragm liquid pump systems.
- Silicone tubing is used for connecting the manifold to the pump and waste bottle.
- Filtration Media (Accessories):
- PALL, A/E Glass fiber Filter (1 um), 100/PK: (Part No. 167100-20).
- PALL, GN-6 Membrane, grid, sterilized, 0.45 um: (Part No. 167100-52).
- Stopper:
- Silicone Stopper (No.8): (Part No. 167110-16).
Usage Features:
- Versatile Configurations: The MultiVac series offers flexibility with 3-place or 6-place manifolds and a choice between vacuum or liquid pumps, catering to different sample volumes and application needs.
- Easy Setup: The system components are designed for straightforward assembly. For vacuum filtration systems, two silicone tubes connect the Rocker 400 vacuum pump, waste bottle, and manifold. For diaphragm liquid pump systems, a 15 cm silicone tube connects the manifold to the "IN" inlet of the Alligator 200, and a 200 cm tube connects to the "OUT" outlet for draining or collecting waste.
- Simple Operation:
- Ensure all valves on the manifold are in the "off" (horizontal) position before use.
- Install the appropriate membrane in the filter holder.
- Rotate the valves counterclockwise to the "up" (vertical) position for filtration.
- Turn on the pump and pour the sample liquid into the funnel.
- After filtration, turn the valves back to the "horizontal" position and retrieve the membrane.
- Interchangeable Outlet Direction: The outlet on the MultiVac manifold can be easily disassembled and reoriented by hand or tool to suit the desired setup.
- Safety Recommendation: It is always recommended to install a waste bottle between the manifold and the vacuum pump to prevent liquid from flowing into the pump, which could cause damage.
Maintenance Features:
- Post-Use Cleaning: After every use, it is crucial to suck pure water through the tubing to clean it. Continue pumping air for at least 1 minute to drain out any residual liquid, preventing contamination and buildup.
- Surface Cleaning: The surface of the manifold should be cleaned with pure water or 75% ethanol.
- Autoclavable Components: The MultiVac manifold, filter holder, and vacuum bottle are autoclavable at 121°C, 1 bar, for 20 minutes. For complete sterilization, ensure all control valves/knobs and the vent valve are in the “OPEN” position during autoclaving.
- Consumable Replacement: Silicone tubes and O-rings are consumables and should be replaced periodically. If any air leakage issues are observed, these components should be checked and replaced as necessary to maintain optimal performance. The manual provides diagrams for identifying the O-rings of the control valve, plug, outlet, and adaptor for easy replacement.
