Why won't my Murray 7800409 Lawn Mower engine turnover or start?

  Your Murray Lawn Mower engine might not turnover or start due to several reasons. It could be that the brake pedal isn't fully depressed; make sure to fully depress it. The PTO (electric clutch) switch might be in the ON position; place it in the OFF position. Check if the cruise control is engaged and move the knob to the NEUTRAL/OFF position. Also, check if the fuel tank is empty and refill it if needed, after allowing a hot engine to cool. If the engine is flooded, disengage the choke. Other potential causes include a discharged or dead battery (recharge or replace it), loose or broken wiring (visually check the wiring), or a faulty solenoid or starter motor, safety interlock switch, water in the fuel, or old gas.

  If your Murray Lawn Mower engine stalls easily when the mower is engaged, try the following: Ensure the engine speed is set to full throttle and that you're not moving too fast. A dirty or clogged air filter, cutting height set too low, discharge chute jamming, engine not up to operating temperature, or starting the mower in tall grass could also be the reason. To resolve these, cut tall grass at maximum cutting height during the first pass, cut grass with the discharge pointing toward previously cut area, and run the engine for several minutes to warm-up and start the mower in a cleared area.
