Do you have a question about the Nacra 500 and is the answer not in the manual?
Place hulls boxes approx. 8 feet apart. Ensure correct orientation. Handle staples carefully to avoid scratches or cuts.
Open hardware boxes and identify all boat parts, which vary by model. List of common parts provided.
Slide front edge into forward beam, ensuring pocket and straps face up. Then slide sides into hull tracks, pulling evenly.
Assemble spreader arms by screwing end pieces, attaching to base, and connecting with clevis pins. Adjust rake to at least 1 1/2".
Attach diamond wires to mast using turnbuckles, clevis pins, and plates. Ensure tension is equal on both sides.
Attach rotator wishbone to mast bolts, ensuring lower bolt prevents boom contact. Tighten both nuts securely.
Attach downhaul blocks to mast base. Run main halyard through masthead sheave and luff groove, securing with lock ring and shackle.
Route spinnaker halyard up starboard side of mast, through spreaders, bale, and cheek block, then down mast exterior.
Attach shrouds and forestay to mast hound using shackles. Secure jib halyard block to forestay pigtail.
Assemble forestay assembly, attaching tang to mast hound and forestay to jib halyard block.
Install downhaul kit per instructions. Install rotator cleats aft of forward beam using angled shim.
Install shroud adjusters on hulls and attach bridle wires/forestay assembly. Ensure adjuster tang faces aft.
Run shock cord, tie bowline, attach ring. Thread line through thimble, attach adjuster, tie off.
CAUTION: Check for overhead wires. Ensure boat is on level ground before raising mast.
Lay mast lengthwise, slide shroud covers, pin shrouds. Walk mast back, rotate 90 degrees, pin base to mast ball.
One person on tramp, second raises mast. Raise to shoulders, walk forward, extending arms until mast is upright.
Pin forestay to stay adjuster. Tighten rig using trapeze wires and shroud chain plates. Adjust rake as needed.
Attach rudder castings, adjust rake. Install hiking stick on tiller tie bar. Install rudders onto pintles with tiller arms facing inboard.
Lock rudders down, measure blade edges. Adjust rudders in/out to match measurements and secure with self-tapping screws.
Install jib cleat blocks onto cars on front beam. Tie jib sheet to becket, thread through blocks and behind mast.
Connect boom to mast bracket. Tie rotator limiter lines to turnbuckles and lead to clamcleats on boom.
Thread mainsheet line through blocks, starting at lower block cleat. Shackle lower block to traveler car.
Tie traveler line ends to rear beam eye straps. Run line through traveler car and cleat. Tie stopper knot or to mainsheet.
Attach jib halyard shackle to jib head. Run jib halyard through zipper with forestay, pull jib up, zipping closed.
Unroll mainsail, insert battens into pockets, ensuring tips fit. Use tie line to secure battens, creating tension to remove wrinkles.
Face boat into wind. Shackle main halyard to sail head, feed into mast slot, pull halyard. To lower, rotate mast and pull sail down.
Attach spinnaker sheet ratchet blocks to hull eyestraps or shroud adjusters. Secure shackles with seizing wire.
Mount spin sheet turning blocks on front beam. Install spin pole mounting beam pin. Insert Aluminum spinnaker pole through bridle fitting and onto beam pin.
Insert plastic tube into snuffer front using bolt and eyes. Slide snuffer assembly through pole holder on bridle/forestay connection.
Attach snuffer bridle wires to hull tangs using supplied bent tang. Ensure plate is on outside of hull tang.
Use continuous line for halyard to raise and douse spinnaker. Tie halyard to spinnaker head, run through blocks, and to snuffer bag.
Run control lines for self-tacking jib. Install spinnaker or snuffer pole before running lines.
Attach single airblock to traveler car on jib track and to jib clew. Tie small line to floating airblock, back to becket block on traveler car.
Always wear lifejacket. Sail within ability, carry safety gear. Launch into waves, know wind direction, secure drain plugs.
Install righting line. Sit on hull, lower to bottom hull. Uncleat sheets, throw line over top hull, move weight to right boat.
Use cradles, remove boards/rigging. Secure boat snugly to trailer, secure mast and use red flag.
Category C for coastal waters. Catamaran supports crew when swamped and is recoverable after capsize.
Crew training advised. Do not exceed max load. Avoid storing boat in water. Close inspection ports/drains.
Rinse boat with fresh water after use. Check sails, trampoline, mast ball, fittings, wires, lines, and bearings.
