current sinking The ability of a DAQ board to dissipate current for analog or digital output
signals.
current sourcing The ability of a DAQ board to supply current for analog or digital output
signals.
D
DAQ data acquisition
Collecting and measuring electrical signals from sensors, transducers, and
test probes or fixtures and inputting them to a computer for processing.
Collecting and measuring the same kinds of electrical signals with A/D
and/or DIO boards plugged into a computer, and possibly generating
control signals with D/A and/or DIO boards in the same computer.
DAQ-STC A custom ASIC developed by National Instruments that provides timing
information and general-purpose counter/timers on National Instruments
E Series boards.
DC direct current
decode Used in the context of motion encoders. The two channels of a motion
encoder indicate information about movement and direction of movement
of an external device. Decoding refers to extracting this information from
the signals on these channels.
device A plug-in data acquisition board, card, or pad that can contain multiple
channels and conversion devices. Plug-in boards, PCMCIA cards, and
DAQ devices that connect to your computer parallel port, are all examples
of DAQ devices.
DIO digital input/output
DLL dynamic link library—a software module in Microsoft Windows
containing executable code and data that can be called or used by Windows
applications or other DLLs. Functions and data in a DLL are loaded and
linked at run time when they are referenced by a Windows application or
other DLLs.
