Overview

This document is a user manual for a Neff extractor hood, providing comprehensive instructions for installation, operation, and maintenance.

Function Description:

The Neff extractor hood is designed to remove cooking fumes, steam, and odors from the kitchen environment. It can operate in two primary modes:

  • Exhaust Air Mode: In this mode, air is drawn into the appliance, cleaned by grease filters, and then expelled to the exterior through a pipe system. This mode requires adequate fresh air supply to the room, especially when room air-dependent heat-producing appliances (like gas, oil, wood, or coal-operated heaters) are also in operation, to prevent the risk of poisoning from flue gases being drawn back into the living space. A partial vacuum can be created if insufficient fresh air is supplied, which can draw toxic gases from chimneys or extraction shafts. Safe operation in exhaust air mode requires that the partial vacuum in the room where heat-producing appliances are installed does not exceed 4 Pa (0.04 mbar). A one-way flap must be installed if the hood is used in exhaust air mode.
  • Air Recirculation Mode: Here, the drawn-in air is cleaned by both grease filters and an activated carbon filter before being returned to the kitchen. This mode is suitable for situations where external venting is not feasible or desired. For effective odor removal in this mode, an activated carbon filter must be installed. Unrestricted operation is possible in circulating-air mode as it does not affect room air pressure.

Important Technical Specifications:

  • Appliance Widths: The manual illustrates two variants: 53 cm and 73 cm wide extractor hoods.
  • Minimum Installation Height: The extractor hood must be installed at least 650 mm above the cooking surface.
  • Duct Diameter (Recommended): For optimal performance, a round exhaust air pipe with an inner diameter of 150 mm is recommended, though at least 120 mm is acceptable.
  • Flat Duct Cross-Section: For flat ducts, the inner cross-section should correspond to the diameter of round pipes. For a 150 mm diameter, this is approximately 177 cm², and for 120 mm, approximately 113 cm².
  • Connecting Cable Length: Approximately 1.20 m.
  • Max. Weight: The extractor hood weighs a maximum of 15 kg.
  • Wall Thickness for Surround: All walls of the surround must be at least 15 mm thick.
  • Overvoltage Category: The permanent electrical installation should comply with overvoltage category III.
  • LED Lights: The appliance uses LED lighting.
  • Activated Charcoal Filter Replacement: Recommended twice a year with normal use (1-2 hours a day).

Usage Features:

  • Control Panel: The appliance features a slide switch for fan settings (1-3, plus an intensive mode 'P') and a button for lighting.
  • Fan Settings: Users can adjust the fan speed according to the amount of steam produced. Lower fan speeds consume less energy. An intensive setting ('P') is available for large build-ups of odors and fumes.
  • Lighting: The lighting can be switched on and off independently of the ventilation system.
  • Energy Saving Tips:
    • Ensure sufficient air supply during cooking.
    • Adjust fan speed to the amount of steam; use intensive mode only when necessary.
    • Switch off the hood and lighting when not needed.
    • Clean/replace filters regularly to maintain effectiveness and prevent fire risk.
    • Use lids on cookware to reduce steam and condensation.
  • Safety Precautions:
    • Never operate without grease filters.
    • Avoid naked flames near the appliance.
    • Do not leave hot oil or fat unattended.
    • Only operate gas burners with cookware on them to prevent overheating.
    • Do not operate two gas burners simultaneously on the highest flame for longer than 15 minutes.
    • Keep children away from hot parts and the appliance.
    • Wear protective gloves when handling components inside the appliance due to sharp edges.
    • Do not look directly into switched-on LED lights for longer than 100 seconds (risk group 1).
    • Ensure the appliance is correctly installed and securely fastened.
    • Disconnect from electricity supply before cleaning or in case of damage.
    • Do not use high-pressure or steam cleaners.
    • Install the exhaust duct with a slight (1°) slope to prevent condensate damage.

Maintenance Features:

  • Cleaning and Maintenance:
    • Grease Filters: Must be cleaned at least every 2 months to prevent fire risk from grease deposits. They can be cleaned by hand (soaking in hot soapy water, scrubbing, rinsing, and draining) or in a dishwasher (though slight discoloration may occur).
    • Activated Charcoal Filters: These bind odors in recirculation mode and should be replaced twice a year with normal use. They cannot be cleaned or reactivated. The manual provides detailed instructions for fitting and removing these filters, including the use of sealing strips and a wing nut mechanism.
    • Surfaces:
      • Stainless steel: Clean with hot soapy water and a soft cloth, drying thoroughly. Clean in the direction of the grain. Special stainless steel cleaning products can be used.
      • Painted surfaces: Clean with hot soapy water and a damp dishcloth, drying with a soft cloth/towel.
      • Aluminium and plastic: Clean with glass cleaner and a soft cloth.
      • Glass: Clean with glass cleaner and a soft cloth; do not use a glass scraper.
      • Controls: Clean with hot soapy water and a damp dishcloth, drying with a soft cloth/towel. Never clean with a wet cloth to avoid moisture ingress into electronics.
    • General Cleaning Agents: Avoid harsh, abrasive, or high-alcohol content cleaning agents, hard scouring pads, or cleaning sponges.
    • LED Lights: Defective LED lights must only be replaced by the manufacturer, customer service, or a qualified electrician.
  • Troubleshooting: The manual includes a table for common malfunctions (appliance not working, lighting not working) with possible causes and solutions, advising users to check power supply, fuses, and connections before contacting customer service.
  • Customer Service: Provides contact information and advises users to have the product (E no.) and production (FD no.) numbers ready when calling. These numbers are found on the rating plate inside the appliance (accessible by removing the metal mesh grease filter).
