Overview

This document serves as a user manual for a Neff Refrigerator, covering models KI181, KI151, KI141, KI131, and KI121. It provides comprehensive information on safety, installation, operation, features, maintenance, and troubleshooting.

Function Description

The Neff Refrigerator is designed for chilling food in private households and enclosed domestic environments, at altitudes up to 2000 m above sea level. It is intended for full integration into a kitchen. The appliance features a refrigerator compartment where the temperature can be set between 2 °C and 8 °C, allowing for the storage of various perishable foods such as meat, sausage, fish, dairy products, eggs, prepared meals, and pastries. The refrigerator compartment includes different chill zones: the coldest zone is located between an arrow stamped on the side and the shelf underneath, ideal for highly perishable items, while the warmest zone is at the very top of the door, suitable for foods like hard cheese and butter. The appliance also features a fruit and vegetable container for storing fresh produce.

An "OK" sticker, present in some models, helps users verify if the refrigerator compartment has reached the recommended safe temperature range of +4 °C or colder. If the sticker does not indicate "OK," the user is advised to gradually reduce the temperature setting.

The refrigerator includes a Super cooling function, which rapidly cools the compartment to the coldest possible temperature. This feature is recommended before placing large quantities of food into the appliance, and it automatically switches back to normal operation after approximately 15 hours.

Defrosting in the refrigerator compartment occurs automatically. Condensation droplets or frost form on the rear panel, then run through a condensation channel into a drainage hole and an evaporation pan, eliminating the need for manual wiping.

Important Technical Specifications

The appliance's technical specifications, including refrigerant type, cubic capacity, and climate class, are detailed on the rating plate. The climate class determines the permitted room temperature for optimal operation:

  • SN: 10 °C to 32 °C
  • N: 16 °C to 32 °C
  • ST: 16 °C to 38 °C
  • T: 16 °C to 43 °C

The appliance is fully functional within these ranges. An appliance with climate class SN can operate at temperatures as low as 5 °C without damage.

Installation requires a niche depth of 560 mm (minimum 550 mm) and an inside niche width of at least 560 mm. The appliance's weight can be up to 70 kg, so the subfloor must be stable enough to support it. For safety, the appliance should be installed in a space with a volume of at least 1 m³ per 8 g of refrigerant, as indicated on the rating plate.

The product number (E-Nr.) and production number (FD) are found on the rating plate and are essential for customer service inquiries. Further model information is available online via the EU EPREL product database.

Usage Features

The appliance is controlled via a user-friendly control panel.

  • A button with a right arrow (>) is used to set the temperature of the refrigerator compartment.
  • The "Super" light illuminates when Super cooling is active.
  • A digital display shows the set temperature in °C.
  • A power button (①) switches the appliance on or off.

To switch on the appliance, press the power button. The appliance will begin cooling, but the set temperature will only be reached after several hours. Users are advised not to place food inside until the desired temperature is achieved. To switch off the appliance, press the power button again.

When setting the temperature, repeatedly press the temperature setting button (>) until the desired temperature is displayed. The recommended temperature for the refrigerator compartment is 4 °C.

The Super cooling function is activated by repeatedly pressing the temperature setting button until "Super" lights up. This function is useful for quickly cooling large quantities of food.

The shelves and door racks are adjustable and removable, allowing users to customize the interior layout for different storage needs. The fruit and vegetable container is designed for storing fresh produce, with recommendations to cover chopped items or store them in air-tight packaging to retain quality and aroma. Certain fruits and vegetables sensitive to cold (e.g., pineapple, bananas, citrus fruits, cucumbers, courgettes, peppers, tomatoes, and potatoes) should be stored outside the appliance at temperatures between 8 °C and 12 °C.

Maintenance Features

Regular cleaning and maintenance are crucial for the appliance's efficiency and longevity.

  1. Preparation: Switch off the appliance, disconnect it from the power supply (unplug or switch off the circuit breaker), remove all food and store it in a cool place (using ice packs if available), and allow any hoarfrost to defrost. Remove all fittings and accessories.
  2. Cleaning: Clean the appliance, fittings, accessories, and door seals with a dish cloth, lukewarm water, and a pH-neutral washing-up liquid. Dry all parts thoroughly with a soft, dry cloth.
  3. Condensation Channel and Drainage Hole: Regularly clean the condensation channel and drainage hole using a moistened cotton bud to ensure proper drainage and prevent odours.
  4. Stainless Steel Surfaces: For models with stainless steel surfaces, use only cleaning cloths and agents suitable for stainless steel. Wipe in the direction of the grain to prevent visible scratches. Do not use hard scouring pads, abrasive detergents, or cleaning products with high alcohol content.
  5. Fittings and Accessories: Fittings and accessories should not be cleaned in a dishwasher, as this may cause deformation or discolouration. They should be removed and cleaned manually.

After cleaning, re-insert all fittings, connect the appliance to the electricity supply, and switch it on. Food can be placed back into the appliance once the set temperature is reached.

The manual also provides troubleshooting steps for common issues such as the appliance not cooling (showroom mode), LED lighting not working, temperature discrepancies, wet refrigerator compartment base (blocked drainage), and unusual noises. For more complex issues or if the self-test indicates a fault, users are advised to contact customer service. Repairs should only be carried out by trained specialist staff using genuine spare parts.
