Its flexible configuration and robust Quality of Service (QoS) capabilities are designed to comply with technical performance standards like IEEE802.3ah and ITU-TG.984.x, as well as China Telecom's EPON/GPON equipment technical requirements.

The device comes in three main models: HG323R, HG323RW, and HG323RWT, each offering a slightly different set of features. The HG323R model provides 1 Gigabit Ethernet (GE), 1 Fast Ethernet (FE), and 1 POTS (Plain Old Telephone Service) port. The HG323RW model adds WiFi capabilities to the HG323R's features, while the HG323RWT model further enhances this by including CATV (Cable Television) functionality in addition to WiFi, GE, FE, and POTS. All models are powered by a Realtek chipset and include 64MB of SDRAM memory.

Function Description

The G/EPON ONU serves as a crucial component in fiber optic networks, acting as the interface between the optical network terminal (OLT) and the end-user's devices. Its primary function is to convert optical signals from the OLT into electrical signals that can be used by various devices in a home or office environment.

PON Interface: The device features a 1 G/EPON port, supporting both EPON PX20+ and GPON Class B+ standards. This allows it to connect to a wide range of OLTs from manufacturers like Huawei, ZTE, and FiberHome. The PON interface is responsible for receiving optical signals with a sensitivity of up to -28dBm and transmitting optical power between 0 and +4dBm, ensuring reliable communication over a transmission distance of up to 20KM. The optical interface uses an SC/UPC connector for the HG323RW model and an SC/APC connector with WDM (Wavelength Division Multiplexing) for the HG323RWT model, which also supports CATV.

LAN Interface: The device includes multiple auto-adaptive Ethernet interfaces, specifically 1 x 10/100/1000Mbps and 1 x 10/100Mbps ports. These RJ45 connectors support both full and half-duplex modes, allowing users to connect various network devices such as computers, smart TVs, and other wired network equipment.

POTS Interface: For voice communication, the ONU is equipped with 1 FXS (Foreign Exchange Subscriber) port with an RJ11 connector. This port supports a range of codecs including G.711, G.723, G.726, and G.729, enabling high-quality voice calls. It also supports T.30, T.38, and G.711 Fax modes, as well as DTMF Relay, ensuring compatibility with various telephony services. Line testing according to GR-909 is also supported.

WiFi Interface (for HG323RW/RWT models): The WiFi-enabled models comply with the IEEE802.11b/g/n standard, operating in the 2.400-2.4835GHz frequency range. They support MIMO (Multiple-Input Multiple-Output) technology, offering data rates of up to 300Mbps. With 2T2R (2 Transmit, 2 Receive) and two external 5dBi antennas, these models provide robust wireless coverage. They support multiple SSIDs (Service Set Identifiers) and 13 channels. Modulation types include DSSS, CCK, and OFDM, with encoding schemes such as BPSK, QPSK, 16QAM, and 64QAM, ensuring flexible and efficient wireless communication.

CATV Interface (for HG323RWT model): The HG323RWT model includes a CATV interface, which supports RF optical power between +2 and -18dBm, with an optical reflection loss of ≥45dB. It receives optical signals at a wavelength of 1550±10nm and operates within an RF frequency range of 47-1000MHz, with an RF output impedance of 75Ω. The RF output level is ≥82dBuV (-7dBm optical input), and it features an AGC (Automatic Gain Control) range of +2~-7dBm/-4~-13dBm/-5~-14dBm. The MER (Modulation Error Ratio) is ≥32dB (-14dBm optical input) and >35 (-10dBm), indicating excellent signal quality for television services.

Usage Features

The device is designed for ease of use and offers a range of features to enhance the user experience.

Dual Mode Operation: The ONU supports both EPON and GPON dual modes, allowing it to connect to various OLTs from different vendors, providing flexibility in network deployment.

Bridging and Routing Mode: The software supports both bridging and routing modes, enabling the device to function as a simple bridge or a more sophisticated router, depending on network requirements.

Layer 2 and Layer 3 Features: It incorporates robust Layer 2 features such as 802.1D & 802.1ad bridge, 802.1p CoS (Class of Service), and 802.1Q VLAN (Virtual Local Area Network), facilitating efficient traffic management. Layer 3 features include IPv4/IPv6 support, DHCP Client/Server, PPPoE, NAT (Network Address Translation), DMZ (Demilitarized Zone), and DDNS (Dynamic Domain Name System), providing comprehensive routing capabilities.

Multicast Support: The device supports IGMPv1/v2/v3 (Internet Group Management Protocol) and IGMP snooping, which are essential for efficient delivery of multicast traffic, such as IPTV services.

Security Features: To ensure network security, the ONU includes flow and storm control mechanisms, as well as loop detection, protecting the network from potential disruptions and attacks.

CATV Management: For the HG323RWT model, CATV management features are supported, allowing for control and monitoring of the cable television services.

WiFi Features (for HG323RW/RWT models): The WiFi functionality includes authentication methods such as WEP, WAP-PSK (TKIP), and WAP2-PSK (AES), ensuring secure wireless connections. The ability to support multiple SSIDs allows for the creation of separate networks for different purposes, such as a guest network.

POTS Voice Enhancement: The POTS interface offers several voice enhancement features, including local exchange, dynamic voice jitter buffering, silence detection, echo offset, and loss compensation. These features contribute to clear and reliable voice communication.

Firewall: A built-in firewall supports filtering based on ACL (Access Control List), MAC (Media Access Control) address, and URL (Uniform Resource Locator), providing an additional layer of security for the network.

LED Indicators: The device features a series of LED indicators that provide visual feedback on its operational status. These include POWER, LOS (Loss of Signal), REG/PON (Registration/PON), GE/FE/LAN1~2, FXS/PHONE, WiFi, and CATV. These LEDs help users quickly identify the status of power, optical signal, network registration, Ethernet port connections, phone service, wireless connectivity, and CATV signal. For instance, a blinking LOS LED indicates that the device is not receiving optical signals, while a solid green REG/PON LED means the device is registered to the PON system.

Pair Button (for HG323RW model): The HG323RW model includes a "Pair" button for initiating WPS (Wi-Fi Protected Setup) pairing, simplifying the process of connecting wireless devices. An LED associated with the Pair button indicates the WPS client connection status.

Maintenance Features

The ONU is designed with maintenance in mind, offering features that simplify troubleshooting and management.

Reset Button (RST): A reset button is provided to restore the device to its factory default settings. Pressing and holding the button for 1-5 seconds will trigger a restart and initiate the recovery process.

Power On/Off Button: A dedicated power on/off button allows users to easily control the device's power status.

O&M (Operations and Maintenance): The device supports various O&M protocols, including WEB, TELNET, OAM, OMCI, and TR069. It also supports private OAM/OMCI protocols and unified network management of VSOL OLTs. These features enable remote management, configuration, and monitoring of the device, simplifying maintenance tasks for network administrators.

Operating and Storing Conditions: The device is designed to operate within a temperature range of 0℃ to +50℃ and a humidity range of 10% to 90% (non-condensing). For storage, it can withstand temperatures from -30℃ to +60℃ and humidity from 10% to 90% (non-condensing), ensuring its durability and reliability in various environmental conditions.
