The following upgrade instructions are in relation to updating the firmware by copying an update file to the SD Card via the supplied USB cable.
Our Dash Cams can also be updated via MyNextbase Player® (NBDVR222 and above).

   • For Mac users: CMD-click on the .bin file and select 'Copy' from the context menu. This action prepares the file for transfer to the dash cam's SD card.

3. Preparing the Dash Cam:

   • Accessing Setup Menu: Users need to access the dash cam's Setup Menu. This is typically done by pressing the 'Menu' button twice when the camera is not actively recording.
   • Formatting the SD Card: Within the Setup Menu, users should navigate to the 'Format SD Card' option and press 'OK' to confirm. This step is crucial as it ensures the SD card is clean and ready to receive the new firmware file, minimizing potential conflicts or errors during the update.

   • Within the 'NEXTBASE' drive (representing the SD card), users right-click (or CMD-click on Mac) in the white space and select 'Paste'. This action transfers the copied firmware file (FW222GA.bin) onto the SD card.
   • A critical note here is to ensure the file is not renamed during this process. If the file appears as FW222GA(1).bin or similar, the update will fail. The file name must remain exactly as downloaded.

7. Initiating the Update:

   • After the file has been successfully copied to the SD card, the dash cam can be safely unplugged from the PC.
   • The dash cam will then shut down, and the Nextbase logo will appear, indicating it's ready for the next step.
   • Users then plug the dash cam back into their PC and select 'Power On' from the 'PC Connection' screen. The firmware update process should begin automatically. During this phase, a message like "Firmware Updating... Update takes approx 1 minute. Do not disconnect power!" will be displayed.

8. Verifying the Update:

   • Once the update is complete, the dash cam will restart and again display the 'PC Connection' screen. Users should select 'Power On' to continue.
   • To verify the successful update, users navigate back to the Setup Menu (pressing 'Menu' twice), scroll to 'System Info', and press 'OK'. The displayed firmware version should reflect the newly installed update (e.g., Rxx.x).
