This document provides information about Phonak Auto M, Phonak Auto SP, and Phonak Auto Micro hearing aid models, covering their functions, usage, and maintenance.

Function Description:

These hearing aids are designed to amplify sound for individuals with hearing impairment. They can be set up with either a manual volume control or as fully automatic devices that adjust to the environment. They also feature multiple programs to suit different listening situations.

Important Technical Specifications:

  • Models: Phonak Auto M, Phonak Auto SP, Phonak Auto Micro.
  • Battery Type (Auto M and SP): Size 13 battery (orange sticker).
  • Battery Type (Auto Micro): Size 312 battery (brown sticker).
  • Battery Life: Approximately one week to ten days.
  • Identification: Red dot for right hearing aid, blue dot for left hearing aid, located at the battery drawer hinge.
  • Connectivity: Right and left aids are wirelessly linked for synchronized volume changes.

Usage Features:

  • Turning On/Off:
    • To turn on: Close the battery drawer.
    • To turn off: Open the battery drawer.
    • It is recommended to open the battery drawer when the aid is not in use to conserve battery life.
  • Volume Control:
    • If set up with manual control, use the rocker switch.
    • Push the rocker switch up to increase volume.
    • Pull the rocker switch down to decrease volume.
    • The hearing aids have a specific range of volume steps.
    • They will always switch on at the middle volume level.
    • Due to wireless linking, adjusting volume on one aid automatically adjusts the other.
  • Programs:
    • Hearing aids can be set up with different programs (e.g., Automatic Program, Program 1, Program 2, Program 3).
    • To scroll through programs: Push the topmost button on the aid. Each push changes the program one step at a time.
    • After reaching the final program, the next push restores the aid to the first program.
    • The number of beeps heard corresponds to the program number (e.g., '1 beep' for Program 1, '2 beeps' for Program 2).
    • The hearing aid will switch on in the Automatic Program.

Maintenance Features:

  • Battery Replacement:
    • General: Batteries come in packs of six. When the aid starts to beep without prompting, the battery is nearing the end of its life. Keep a spare set handy.
    • Auto M and SP (Size 13, orange sticker):
      • Remove the sticker from the positive side of the new battery.
      • The positive side is shiny, engraved with four dimples and a plus sign.
      • Hold the aid upright and insert the battery with the positive side facing left.
    • Auto Micro (Size 312, brown sticker):
      • Remove the sticker from the positive side of the new battery.
      • The positive side is shiny, engraved with four dimples and a plus sign.
      • Place the hearing aid on a flat surface and insert the battery with the positive side facing upward.
  • Cleaning the Aid and Tube Fitting:
    • Daily Cleaning: Wipe the dome carefully with a damp cloth, non-fragranced facial wipe, or baby wipe when removing the aid at the end of the day. This is also useful for cleaning the aid itself, but avoid getting it wet.
    • Wax Blockage (Tubing or Dome):
      • Detach the tubing by unscrewing it anticlockwise from the top where it joins the aid.
      • Thread a cleaning wire (provided in your kit) through the tubing to unblock it.
      • Re-screw the tube to the top of the aid.
    • Spare Parts: Cleaning wires, spare tubes, and domes are provided as part of your kit.
