How to troubleshoot Nordyne CMF2 80-PG Convertible Gas Heater burner that does not start?
    • K
      Kathryn CannonAug 18, 2025
If the burner of your Nordyne Gas Heater doesn't start when there's a call for heat, begin by checking the electrical supply to the furnace and ensuring the furnace door switch is in the 'on' position. Verify that there's a line voltage of 115 VAC at the oil primary control. If the indicator light is on when the burner is off and there's no call for heat, the cad cell may be detecting stray light, or the cad cell or controller might be defective. Try jumpering the T to T terminals on the primary control. If the burner starts, inspect the thermostat or limit wiring connections for faults. If the burner still doesn't start, turn off the power and check all wiring connections. As a last resort, replace the R7184 control.

What to do if Nordyne CMF2 80-PG Convertible Gas Heater burner starts then locks out?
    • J
      Joy OlsenNov 11, 2025
If your Nordyne Gas Heater burner starts but then locks out with the indicator light flashing at ½ second intervals, first reset the primary control. If the indicator light stops flashing but ignition remains off, the primary control could be defective, and if line voltage is present at the ignitor terminals with no ignition, the ignitor is likely defective and needs replacement. If the indicator light stops flashing, the burner turns on, but the control locks out again, inspect the cad cell; if it's okay, replace the primary control. Also, ensure the control isn't in restricted mode; if it is, reset it. If not in restricted mode, replace the R7184. Check that the cad cell sighting has a clear view of the flame, and verify the cad cell resistance. If the indicator light is off, inspect the...
