Installation Manual
1.0 SAFETY INFORMATION
The provision of the electrical supply and the connection of the unit to the mains
must be carried out by a qualified electrician. Ensure that the mains supply (Voltage,
Frequency and Phase) complies with the rating label.
Isolate from power supply before removing any covers. During installation /
maintenance ensure all covers are fitted before switching on the mains supply.
All-pole disconnection from the mains as shown in the wiring diagram must be
incorporated within the fixed wiring and shall have a minimum contact separation of
3mm in accordance with latest edition of the wiring regulations.
This unit must be earthed.
Ducting must be securely fixed with screws to the spigot to prevent access to live
parts.
If the supply cord is damaged, it must be replaced by its service agent or similarly
qualified persons in order to avoid a hazard.
When installing the unit, take care not to damage electrical or other hidden
components – do not drill the unit casing.
Precautions must be taken to avoid the back-flow of gases into the room from the
open flue of gas or other fuel-burning appliances.
The unit must be installed indoors, and away from direct sources of frost, heat and
water spray or moisture generation. Ambient temperature range -5 to 40 °C.
The cooling unit is an electro-mechanical device that contains and uses R134A
refrigerant. Refrigerant weight, 0.4Kg (Maximum).
This appliance should not be used by children or persons with reduced physical,
sensory or mental capabilities or lack of experience and knowledge, unless they
have been given supervision or instruction concerning the safe use of the appliance
by a person responsible for their safety. Children shall not play with the appliance.
Cleaning and user maintenance shall not be carried out by children. This unit contains
live electrical components, moving parts and refrigerant under pressure. Always site
out of reach of children and protect from vandalism and accidental damage.

Overview

Nuaire MR-ECO-COOL-V Cooling Module

The Nuaire MR-ECO-COOL-V is a cooling module designed for use with the MRXBOXAB-ECO5-AE(OH)CV ventilation unit and 7713807 control system. This electro-mechanical device utilizes R134A refrigerant to provide cooling, making it an integral part of a comprehensive ventilation and climate control solution.

Function Description

The primary function of the MR-ECO-COOL-V is to cool incoming air in conjunction with a Nuaire MVHR (Mechanical Ventilation with Heat Recovery) unit. When enabled, the cooling module operates to reduce the supply air temperature, contributing to a comfortable indoor environment. The system is designed to prevent overheating, particularly during warmer months or due to solar gains.

The cooling module works in conjunction with a wall-mounted digital room thermostat (CM-THERM-CONTROL), which controls both the cooling module and the MVHR unit. Upon reaching a user-defined set point, the cooling module activates, and the MVHR unit increases to speed 3 to facilitate efficient cooling distribution. The thermostat also features an ECO mode, pre-set to 23°C (not adjustable), which can be set to operate for a duration of 1 to 24 hours. Switching off the thermostat disables the cooling module.

For optimal performance and to prevent thermal overload protection from tripping, a minimum airflow of 180 m³/h (50 l/s) is required. The ventilation unit is recommended to be set to speed 3 on both supply and extract, with potentiometers set to maximum (fully clockwise) during commissioning.

The system incorporates a Summer/Winter switch (supplied with the MVHR) to select the appropriate operating mode. In summer mode, the cooling module is enabled to run, mitigating overheating. Winter mode ensures the MVHR recovers heat at all times. It is recommended to interlock the cooling unit with the heating system to prevent simultaneous operation and unnecessary energy consumption.

Important Technical Specifications

  • Voltage: 230V 1ph 50Hz
  • Running Current: 3.5 A
  • Refrigerant: R134A
  • Refrigerant Weight: 0.4Kg (Maximum)
  • Weight (Cooling Module Only): 65Kg
  • Combined Weight (Cooling Module + MVHR): 121Kg
  • Minimum Airflow for Operation: 180 m³/h (50 l/s)
  • Ambient Temperature Range: -5 to 40 °C
  • Condensate Drain Pipe: 15mm Ø external, compatible with push-on plumbing connections (MAX Outer Diameter of fitting: 37mm).
  • Electrical Connection: Must be earthed. All-pole disconnection with a minimum contact separation of 3mm must be incorporated into the fixed wiring.
  • Dimensions (Cooling Module): Refer to the provided diagrams for detailed measurements, including a cover width of 738mm and a total height of 1369mm when combined with the MVHR unit.

Usage Features

  • Integrated Control: Works seamlessly with the MRXBOXAB-ECO5-AE(OH)CV MVHR unit and CM-THERM-CONTROL thermostat for unified climate management.
  • User-Defined Set Point: The digital room thermostat allows users to set their desired cooling temperature.
  • ECO Mode: An energy-saving mode pre-set to 23°C, with adjustable operating times from 1 to 24 hours.
  • Summer/Winter Switch: Enables selection of appropriate operating mode for seasonal efficiency.
  • Flexible Installation: Can be installed on opposite handed MVHR units by rotating the module 180°, which re-positions the drain, fly lead, and access to coils.
  • Condensate Management: Features an external 15mm Ø condensate drain pipe. If fitted in an unheated space, the pipe should be insulated to prevent freezing. The cooling module must have its own dry trap separate from the MVHR.
  • Safety Features: Designed with thermal overload protection to prevent compressor overheating. Requires secure ducting connections to prevent access to live parts.

Maintenance Features

  • Accessible Coils: Access to both evaporator and condenser coils for cleaning is gained by removing the front cover of the outer case and the inner covers of the Cooling Module. Depending on orientation, internal access panels may need to be removed for the second coil.
  • Coil Inspection and Cleaning: Coils should be inspected for damage or dirt. Loose dirt can be removed with a soft brush. Damaged fins should be combed out. If excessively dirty, a proprietary cleaning agent (e.g., HYDRO-COIL or MULTISOLVE) should be used.
  • Condensate Drain Tray Cleaning: The condensate drain tray should be inspected and cleaned as required.
  • Electrical Connection Checks: All electrical connections should be checked for tightness.
  • MVHR Filter Maintenance: MVHR filters must be inspected every 6 months and replaced every 12 months (or sooner if required). This is crucial as excessively dirty filters can lead to dirty coils.
  • Refrigeration Circuit: All repair and replacement work on refrigeration components must be carried out by a fully qualified refrigeration engineer. All refrigerant must be reclaimed and disposed of safely.
  • Regular Checks: It is important that maintenance checks are recorded and that the schedule is always adhered to.
  • Warranty: A 2-year warranty covers parts only, provided the unit is installed, commissioned, and maintained in accordance with the manual and good practice. Failure to maintain the unit as recommended will invalidate the warranty.
