Error message Restrictions Solutions
W010 A high-temperature
abnormality was detected
in the drive unit.
Assistance will
be lower than
normal.
Do not ride the bicycle with the assist mode enabled until
the drive unit temperature drops.
If the error persists, contact your place of purchase or a
distributor for assistance.
W101 (W011) No bicycle
speed signal was detected
from the speed sensor.
The maximum
speed up to
which assist is
provided will
be lower than
normal.
Have your place of purchase perform the following.
Install the speed sensor in the appropriate location.
Install the magnet in the appropriate location.
(Refer to the ""Disc brake"" section in ""General
operations"" or to the STEPS series dealer's manual for
how to install the removed magnet.)
If the error persists, or if the information above does not
apply, contact your distributor for assistance.
W012 The crank may be
installed in the wrong
direction.
- Have your place of purchase perform the following.
Re-install the crank in the specified direction, then turn
the power back ON.
If the error persists, contact your distributor for
assistance.
W103 (W013) Sensor
initialization could not be
completed normally
Assistance will
be lower than
normal.
Press the battery power button to turn the power OFF
and then ON again without placing your feet on the
pedals.
If the error persists, contact your place of purchase or a
distributor for assistance.
W030 Two or more assist
switches connected to the
system
Not possible
to shift gears
with electronic
derailleurs
If this error appears, consult your dealer.
E010 An abnormality was
detected in the drive unit.
Assist will not be
provided when
riding
Refer to the SHIMANO STEPS user's manual and perform
the following.
Turn the power OFF and then ON again.
If the error persists, stop using it and contact your place
of purchase or a distributor for assistance.
E011 – System operation
error occurred
No power assist
while riding.
Restart the power system. If no improvement, connect
unit to E-TUBE and follow instructions. If error persists,
contact place of purchase.
E012 Sensor initialization
could not be completed
normally.
Assist will not be
provided when
riding.
Press the battery power button to turn the power OFF
and then ON again without placing your feet on the
pedals.
Or, have your place of purchase perform the following.
Adjust the chain tension.
If the error persists, contact your distributor for
assistance.
