Overview

The OceanAire OWC60QC is a portable water-cooled air conditioner designed for both permanent and temporary spot cooling applications. This self-contained unit features a robust sheet metal cabinet with a gray and blue polyester powder-coated finish, equipped with heavy-duty casters for enhanced mobility. All OWC60QC models come with a 10-foot power cord, further contributing to their portability and ease of setup. The unit is designed to direct cool air to specific areas or objects through a discharge grille located on its upper-front.

Function Description

The OWC60QC operates as a spot cooler, providing targeted cooling in open environments where cooling an entire space is not feasible. It can also function as a room air conditioner, utilizing water for heat rejection. This water-cooled design offers the convenience of connecting water hoses or lines, eliminating the need for condenser air ducts typically associated with air-cooled portable units. The unit is controlled by a solid-state electronic device, offering various temperature and airflow control options to achieve desired comfort levels.

Important Technical Specifications

The OWC60QC series includes three models: OWC6012QC, OWC6032QC, and OWC6034QC, all boasting a cooling capacity of 60,100 BTUH.

  • OWC6012QC: Operates on 208-230V/1 Phase at 60Hz, drawing 23.7 Amps with an in-rush current of 165 Amps. It uses a 6-30P LCDI plug type.
  • OWC6032QC: Operates on 208-230V/3 Phase at 60Hz, drawing 16.5 Amps with an in-rush current of 149 Amps. It uses an L15-30P plug type.
  • OWC6034QC: Operates on 460V/3 Phase at 60Hz, drawing 6.3 Amps with an in-rush current of 75 Amps. It uses an L16-20P plug type.

All models have a total wattage of 5000 and an EER of 12. They feature a 5 HP scroll compressor with varying LRA values (158 for OWC6012QC, 137 for OWC6032QC, and 62 for OWC6034QC). The evaporator CFM (high) is 1950, driven by a 1 HP evap motor. Condenser water flow is 3.8 GPM at 60°F water in and 15 GPM at 85°F water in. Water line connections are 3/4 QC for both inlet and outlet, with a 3/8 QC drain. Condensate removal is automatic via a pump with a 20' vertical lift. The R-410A charge is 52 oz. The unit dimensions are 53.2 inches in height, 28.1 inches in width, and 29.1 inches in depth. Net weight is 375 lbs for OWC6012QC and 410 lbs for OWC6032QC/OWC6034QC. The cooling ambient operating range is 65° to 105°. Time delay fuses/circuit breakers are recommended. The unit is not approved for outdoor use.

Usage Features

  • Deluxe Electronic Controller: The unit is equipped with a sophisticated electronic controller that maintains the desired temperature, with a built-in time delay to protect the compressor from short-cycling. Settings are saved during power outages, ensuring automatic restart.
  • Fan Speed Control: The controller allows for manual or automatic fan speed settings. In manual mode, users can select from six fan speed levels (1-Low to 6-High). In auto mode, the unit adjusts fan speed based on the internal temperature and setpoint.
  • Condition Alarm ("CON"): The LED thermostat displays "CON" to indicate issues such as a failed/restricted condensate pump drain tube, incorrect routing, or interrupted/turned off water supply, all of which disable the compressor.
  • Condensate Pump: An automatic condensate pump removes condensate, discharging through a check valve and a 3/8" male quick connect fitting. It has a 20' lift capability. An overflow switch opens if the pump circuit fails, triggering the "CON" alarm.
  • High Pressure Safety Switch: A manual reset high-pressure switch protects the compressor if the condenser water supply is interrupted. If internal pressure exceeds limits, the compressor cycles off, while the evaporator fan continues to run. Resetting involves pushing a red button in a recessed area.
  • Filters: The unit includes a washable electrostatic mesh air filter at the air intake, located behind the evaporator return air grille, which can be easily removed and cleaned.
  • Hose Kits (HK-QC Series): Quick-Connect (QC) hose kits are available in 10-foot, 25-foot, and 40-foot lengths. They consist of three separate hoses: WATER IN (black, 3/4"), WATER OUT (red, 3/4"), and DRAIN (yellow, 3/8"). These reinforced PVC hoses facilitate connection to a water source and drain, enhancing portability. A QC lanyard is provided to release internal coupling valves for draining hoses. Maximum working pressure for water lines is 100 PSIG. All hose kits come with a 4-Way Sink Adapter Fitting.
  • Hose Adapter Kit (HA-LGQC): This kit allows for connecting garden hoses to the QC-Model unit, useful when the water source and drain are in separate areas or for longer hose runs. It includes Quick-Connect Couplings and garden hose connections.
  • Accessories:
    • Discharge Air Nozzle Kit (2NK-3): Optional kit with two 8-inch diameter nozzles (22" compressed, 32" extended) to direct conditioned air to specific targets, increasing air velocity for cooling personnel or equipment.
    • Evaporator Return Air Plenum (DEP-16): Allows for ducting return air to the evaporator inlet using round duct (flexible or rigid), reducing air noise and offering more cooling solutions. When installed, it's recommended to set the evaporator blower speed to high to prevent coil freeze-up.
    • Discharge Duct Adapter (2DDA-16): Converts the evaporator discharge to a 16-inch diameter round duct for applications requiring ducting of cool air. It can be installed for vertical or horizontal ducting. When used with the DEP-16, it enables closed-loop cooling. High blower speed is recommended to prevent coil freeze-up.

Maintenance Features

  • Preventive Maintenance: Regular maintenance is crucial for prolonging the unit's life and ensuring maximum performance.
  • Off-Season Storage/Winterization: Before storage, the unit should be thoroughly cleaned, and all water drained from the condenser coil, water lines, drain pan, and condensate pump to prevent freezing damage or contamination.
  • Draining Condenser Coil and Interior Water Lines: Detach WATER IN and WATER OUT lines. Use a Shop-Vac to vacuum the WATER OUT line while the unit runs, allowing the water valve to open and drain the condenser coil. Repeat after 15 minutes and depressing the HI PRESSURE RESET until all water is removed.
  • Draining Hose Kit: Disconnect all hoses, connect the lanyard fitting, and allow gravity drainage.
  • Evacuating Condensate Pump: Use a Shop-Vac to remove all water from the condensate pump reservoir. Ensure floats move freely, and check/clean the pump assembly, reservoir, and piping for obstructions or mineral deposits.
  • Cleaning the Unit: Wash the evaporator coil and allow it to dry completely.
  • Blower Motor: Evaporator motors have permanently lubricated bearings and do not require oiling.
  • Filter Maintenance: Inspect the electrostatic mesh air filter regularly (every six weeks or less). Clean by washing in a dishwasher or soaking in warm water and detergent, then rinsing and shaking off excess moisture.
  • Troubleshooting Guide: The manual provides a comprehensive guide for diagnosing and correcting common problems, including power interruptions, thermostat display issues, compressor start failures, and alarms (CON, LAC).
  • Three Phase Monitor (for 3-phase units): Equipped with phase monitors (ICM401/ICM402) to protect the compressor motor against phase reversal, imbalance, or loss. LEDs indicate proper operation (GREEN) or fault conditions (RED).
  • Checking Unit Hours: A procedure is outlined to check the compressor "run" time by disconnecting/reconnecting power and using the controller's arrow down button to display thousands and then direct hours.
