Overview

This document provides the operating instructions and parts manual for the OEMTOOLS® 1,100 Lb. 2 Stage Telescoping Transmission Jack, model number 24790.

Function Description:

The OEMTOOLS® 1,100 Lb. 2 Stage Telescoping Transmission Jack is designed as an aid for the removal and installation of automotive and light truck transmissions, transfer cases, and transaxles. This telescopic-style jack is intended for use under an overhead lift or in a garage pit. It is designed for professional use by trained personnel in performing service functions and for servicing a variety of vehicles in a safe, convenient manner. The jack supports a transmission or differential as individual components. It is crucial to ensure the load is evenly distributed on the jack and secured with the provided chains or optional safety straps. The jack is not designed to lift or lower a vehicle itself, nor should it be used as a work/repair station. Loads should be transferred immediately to a suitable workstation. The jack is designed to lift loads only for short periods, not to suspend a load for more than 30 minutes at a time.

Important Technical Specifications:

  • Weight Capacity: 1,100 Lb.
  • Lift Range: 37" - 76.4"

Usage Features:

  • Unpacking and Initial Inspection: Before use, inspect the unit for any transit damage, loose, missing, or damaged parts. If any damage is observed, a shipping damage claim must be filed, and the jack should not be used. If a shock load is suspected, discontinue use until checked by an authorized service center.
  • Air Vent Valve: The Air Vent Valve on the side of the Jack Cylinder must be opened by turning it 2 full turns counterclockwise before initial use.
  • Safety Precautions:
    • Always wear appropriate safety gear, including heavy-duty work gloves and ANSI-approved safety goggles.
    • Ensure the Transmission Jack rolls freely and the pump operates smoothly by raising and lowering it throughout the lifting range without a load.
    • Do not exceed the weight capacity of 1,100 Lb. and ensure weight is evenly distributed to avoid dynamic loading and potential product failure, serious injury, or property damage.
    • Use only on a hard, level, and flat surface capable of bearing the combined weight of the jack, the load, the operator, and any tools.
    • If a loaded jack must be moved, ensure the load is secured, stable, in the lowest possible position, and moved over a smooth, hard, level surface with the lifting platform level.
    • In case the load becomes off-balance or the jack begins to tip over, do not attempt to catch or lift the falling load. Clear the area quickly and safely to avoid injury.
    • Before each use, inspect the general condition of the jack, checking for oil leaks, operation, loose components, and saddle adjustment components.
  • Assembly:
    1. Connect Bases (#43) to the pump frame using Flat Washers (#48), Lock Washers (#49), and Bolts (#50).
    2. Attach 2 Locking Castors (#47) and 2 Wheels (#52) to the base using Nuts (#44), Flat Washers (#45), and Lock Washers (#46).
    3. Install the Saddle (#04) onto the Transmission Jack and tighten the bolt to secure it.
  • Operation:
    1. Bleed the Transmission Jack before use (refer to bleeding instructions).
    2. Follow vehicle manufacturer's instructions for transmission removal/installation.
    3. Familiarize yourself with control functions by jacking up and lowering the saddle without a load.
    4. Position the jack underneath the vehicle once it is safely secured.
    5. Raise the jack using the foot pump until the saddle contacts the component, ensuring it is centered and adjusted with the knobs.
    6. Lift the jack slightly to transfer weight from the vehicle chassis, then secure the chain assembly around the component.
    7. Remove transmission fasteners.
    8. Back the transmission away from the engine.
    9. Carefully lower the transmission and saddle by depressing the release valve slowly, ensuring no hang-ups on under-vehicle components.
    10. Lower the jack to the lowest possible point after removal before moving it.
    11. To re-mount the transmission, reverse this procedure.

Maintenance Features:

  • Bleeding (if jack raises slowly or not at all):
    1. Turn the Vent Screw (#26) counterclockwise to open.
    2. Use an Allen wrench to open the screw on the foot pedal (Figure 1).
    3. Operate the Pump Pedal (#38) until hydraulic fluid escapes and no air bubbles are present.
    4. Tighten the screw.
    5. Test telescopic rams for smooth operation.
    6. Repeat if necessary.
  • Bleeding (if telescopic rams do not raise or lower smoothly):
    1. Turn the Vent Screw (#26) counterclockwise to open.
    2. Press the Pump Pedal (#38) until both rams are at maximum extension.
    3. Use an Allen wrench to turn the screw in the primary cylinder nut counterclockwise 1/2 turn (Figure 2).
    4. Press the Pump Pedal (#38) two or three times until hydraulic fluid escapes and no air bubbles are present.
    5. Tighten the screw.
    6. Test telescopic rams for smooth operation.
    7. Repeat if necessary.
  • Adding Oil: With the saddle fully lowered and the jack in an upright, level position, remove the oil filler plug. Fill with good grade hydraulic Transmission Jack oil until the oil is level with the filler hole, then re-install the plug. Do not mix different fluid types or use improper fluids like brake fluid, turbine oil, motor oil, or glycerin, as this can cause premature failure and sudden load loss.
  • Changing Oil: For best performance, replace the complete fluid supply at least once per year.
    1. With the saddle fully lowered, remove the oil filler plug.
    2. Lay the jack on its side and drain the fluid into a suitable container. Dispose of hydraulic fluid according to local regulations.
    3. Set the jack in its level position, fill until oil is level with the filler hole, and re-install the filler plug.
  • Lubrication: Periodically apply light lubricating oil to pivot points, axles, and hinges to prevent rust and ensure free movement of casters and pump assemblies.
  • Cleaning: Periodically check the pump piston and ram for signs of rust or corrosion. Clean as needed and wipe with an oily cloth. Never use sandpaper or abrasive material on these surfaces.
  • Storage: When not in use, store the Transmission Jack with the saddle fully lowered in a well-protected area, away from inclement weather, corrosive vapors, abrasive dust, or other harmful elements.
  • Troubleshooting: Use caution when troubleshooting a malfunctioning jack. Stay clear of supported loads. Resolve all problems before use. If malfunctioning, have a qualified technician inspect and repair it. After repair, test carefully without a load.

Warranty:

The product comes with an OEMTOOLS® 90 Day Warranty covering defects in material or workmanship under normal usage. For service, return the tool with proof of purchase to OEMTOOLS® Q.A. Dept., 3580 E. Raines Road #3, Memphis, TN 38118. The warranty does not cover abnormal use, abuse, accidents, alterations, neglect, unauthorized repairs, or lack of maintenance.
