Shooting basics
Using the flash
Select the flash mode best suited to the light conditions and the effect you
want to achieve.

Open the lens barrier fully.
The lens extends and the monitor turns on.

Press ( ) to set flash mode.
The current flash setting is displayed.
Each time you press , the flash mode
changes in the following sequence:
“AUTO” –
Red-eye reduction” –
Fill-in flash” – Flash off”.

Press the shutter button halfway.
When the flash is ready to fire, the orange lamp lights steady.

Press the shutter button fully to take the picture.
Flash working range
W : Approx. 0.5 m to 3.6 m (1.6 ft. to 11.8 ft.)
T : Approx. 0.2 m to 2 m (0.7 ft. to 6.6 ft.)
TIPS
The orange lamp or the (flash standby) indication blinks.
Æ The flash is charging. Wait until the lamp goes off.
The flash does not fire in the following situations:
When shooting a bright subject (AUTO, ), in the movie
record mode, during Panorama shooting.
The flash may not give you the optimum result in macro mode,
especially with wide-angle shooting. Check the resulting picture on
the monitor.
