of a sub - stage base ( D 1 ). an i llumin'ltin g lamp ( D- 2) ,
and a pair of hand r es ts l 0 3). :\n iris apparatus is al so
available as a special accessory.
D-1 Sub-Stage Ba se
Inside the base is a reflecti ng mi rr or 3~ an d at t he back an illu minatin g la mp
sleeve 1?. T urn the mirror kn ob 37 as requi r ed to reflect natural or ar ti ficial
light to the des ired portio n of the specimen. One side of th e mirror is silver ed
and the other side is white. The silvered side is used for co n trasty and intense
li ghti ng a nd th e white side for sof t li g htin g.
When placing th e instrument on the sub·3 ta ge base, the locati ng stud Cl 4 of
the base is engaged in the locat in g h ole un der th e stage. At the o uter sides of
the base are grooves ,35 int o whi ch the hand-rests a1 e inserted and secured by the
knurled clamp sc r ews '10 provided.

tion. Loo£en the hand-r es t cl am p scr ews
( ~0 on thE' base. J n ser t the metal l ip 116
of the hand-rest into the groove, so that
the locating slot 1 71 on the metal lip
engages the locat in g st ud '1 91 on th e base.
Now pu sh the hand -rest in th e direction
of the clam p sc rew ( 40'. a nd tig hten th e
screw. Det ac h by following the opposite
procedure. When st or in g, the hand-rests
can be folded in two. They may be
attac h ed on eit he r side, b ut it is normal
to Je t th e hand -rest c ur ve face you as
shown in th e i ll ust ration.
D -4 Iris Apparatus
( Optional Accessory )
Th e iris a pp arat us is an accessory
to co ntr ol t he bea m of trans-illumination
or to provide obliq ue illumination. It is
se t und e rn eath the top of the sub-s ta ge
