Overview

The CL-355A Dry-Block Calibrator is a portable, dry, constant temperature source designed for use on a benchtop or as a field unit. Manufactured in the UK by Omega Engineering, this calibrator is engineered to provide a safe and economical solution for temperature calibration. The unit weighs approximately nine pounds (four kilograms), making it easily transportable.

Function Description:

The CL-355A calibrator utilizes a machined aluminum insert block as its heat transfer medium, allowing it to cover a wide temperature range from 5°C (9°F) above ambient up to 400°C (752°F). The temperature control circuit is integrated directly into the unit, ensuring precise and stable temperature regulation. It is designed to comply with relevant Radio Frequency interference and electrical safety regulations.

Important Technical Specifications:

  • Temperature Range: 5°C/9°F above ambient to 400°C/752°F.
  • Over-temperature Limit: Approximately 450°C/842°F.
  • Display Resolution: 0.1°.
  • Accuracy: +/-0.6°C (1.1°F).
  • Stability: +/-0.15°C (0.27°F).
  • Heat-up Time (20°C to 400°C): 12 minutes.
  • Cool-down Time (400°C to 100°C): 21 minutes.
  • Immersion Depth: 4.5 inches (114.3 mm).
  • Fan Cooling: Automatic.
  • Weight: 9 lbs (4 Kg).
  • Dimensions (H x W x D): 8.75 x 8 x 8 inches (222.25 x 203.2 x 203.2 mm), excluding the carrying strap.
  • Electrical Supply:
    • 230V, 50/60Hz, 900W
    • 120V, 50/60Hz, 900W
  • Ambient Temperature Range for Specifications: 10°C/50°F to 30°C/86°F. Performance may deteriorate outside this range, but the unit will still operate safely.
  • Working Environment:
    • Ambient Temperature: 5°C/9°F to 40°C/104°F.
    • Humidity: Up to 95% relative humidity, non-condensing.

Usage Features:

  • Insert Formats: 10 different insert formats are available, allowing for versatility in accommodating various probe sizes.
  • Over-temperature Cutout: An independent over-temperature cutout provides an additional layer of safety.
  • Temperature Sensor Burnout Protection: Ensures the longevity and reliability of the temperature sensor.
  • Rapid Heating and Efficient Insulation: The unit heats up quickly, and highly efficient insulation keeps the case cool enough to handle even at maximum operating temperatures.
  • Setting Operating Temperature:
    1. Press and hold the up or down button to adjust the set point.
    2. Release the button once the desired temperature is displayed; the unit will then heat or cool to that set point.
    3. Allow 15 minutes for the block to stabilize after the process value reaches the set point before performing a calibration.
    4. The controller is factory pre-set; only the set-temperature should be changed.
  • Temperature Unit Change: The controller is preset to display in degrees Celsius but can be changed to Fahrenheit. Instructions for this change are found in section 5-2 of the 2216E Eurotherm Controller manual. Users are cautioned not to alter other configuration settings to avoid affecting performance or damaging the unit.
  • Configuration Level Access: The device features a configuration menu accessible by pressing the "Page" button repeatedly until "Access List" appears. Passwords (factory defaults 1 and 2) are required to enter different configuration levels. Specific options like "OPEN FULL" or "Edit" allow direct entry to certain levels.
  • Configuration Parameter Selection: Within the configuration level, users can select desired configuration lists using the "Page" button and scroll through parameters using the "Scroll" button.
  • Leaving Configuration Level: To exit the configuration level, press the "Press" button and select "YES" or "NO." After a 2-second delay, the screen will blank and return to the "HOME" display.

Maintenance Features:

  • Operator Safety: Operators must be suitably trained and adhere to instructions in the manual and general safety standards. The unit is fitted with a preset over-temperature cutout. In case of a safety problem, switch off at the mains and remove the plug.
  • Cleaning: Before cleaning, disconnect the unit from the power supply and allow it to cool below 50°C. Clean with a damp soapy cloth, taking care to prevent water from entering the unit. Abrasive cleaners should not be used.
  • Fuses: The unit is protected by two fuses, which should only be changed by qualified personnel. Persistent fuse blowing indicates a serious fault requiring supplier repair.
  • No Operator Maintainable Parts: The equipment should only be dismantled by properly trained personnel. Removing front or rear panels exposes lethal mains voltages.
  • Troubleshooting and Returns: In case of problems, contact the supplier and return the unit in its original packing with details of the fault. Omega is not responsible for damage due to improper packing during shipment. A Decontamination Certificate is supplied with the unit.
  • Controller Settings: The controller is factory preset, and its configuration settings are password protected for safety. Contact the dealer for more information.

Replacement Parts:

A range of replacement parts is available from Omega Engineering, including:

  • Mains Cables: UK 240V (13amp plug), Euro style 240V (R/A Schuko plug), US 120V.
  • Insert Extractor.
