Do you have a question about the Omron FinsGateway and is the answer not in the manual?
The FinsGateway Modem Module is an add-on software designed to facilitate remote communication for FinsGateway. It enables users to quickly and easily develop applications for remote PLC (Programmable Logic Controller) data acquisition using a modem.
To operate the Modem Module, the environment must support FinsGateway. The following system specifications are recommended:
Communications Settings for the PLC Modem: Unlike computer modems, which can automatically detect communication settings when an AT command is sent, PLC modems cannot. This is because a PLC is not a computer and does not send AT commands. Therefore, the communication settings for the PLC modem must be manually configured to match those of the computer modem and the PLC.
Procedure for Setting PLC Modem:
Serial Communications Driver Settings:
Registering Telephone Numbers: To identify each destination modem and PLC, a telephone number must be registered.

Serial Communications Driver Settings (Dialing):
Closing the Line:
Communications Settings: Some modems have fixed settings of 10 bits for character bits. Users must select one of the following four settings for communication:
It is crucial to confirm that the communication settings of the computer and the PLC match, with the exception of speed. Refer to the PLC manual for instructions on setting the PLC's communication settings.
Speed Setting: The speed for the computer can be set via the Modem Module's communication settings, while the PLC modem's speed is set using the PLC modem settings utility. Speed settings may vary between different modems.
Connecting the PLC Modem: A special cable is required to connect the modem to the PLC. The cable included with the modem is suitable for connecting to a computer but not a PLC. The cable should be prepared according to the provided figures. For detailed wiring information, refer to the modem and PLC manuals.
Connector Hood (FG) Pinout:
| Modem 25pin | PLC CPU unit 9 pin |
|---|---|
| 1 FG | 1 |
| 2 SD | 2 SD |
| 3 RD | 3 RD |
| 4 RS | 4 RS |
| 5 CS | 5 CS |
| 7 SG | 9 SG |
| 6 DR | |
| 20 ER |
Send the AT Command: The PLC modem setup utility might not function correctly with older modems. In such cases, AT commands must be sent to configure the modem. Any AT command can be sent using the PLC modem setup utility. Refer to the modem manual for specific setting details.
ATS0=1AT&W0AT&Y0Flow control or CD/DR/ER signal control settings might be necessary for the modem. Consult the modem manual to determine the appropriate AT commands.
Is the equipment turned on? Confirm that both the modem and the PLC are powered on.
Is the equipment all connected? Verify that the modems are connected to the computer and the PLC, and that the modem and telephone lines are properly wired. Refer to the modem manual for wiring instructions.
Is it the right cable? A special cable is required to connect the PLC and the modem. Ensure the correct cable is used.
Is the right type selected for the telephone line? Confirm that the correct telephone line type (tone dialing or pulse dialing) is selected.
Is the PLC modem set? The PLC modem must be configured as it will not work with default settings. Settings may be erased if the modem has been off for an extended period, so re-configure if necessary.
Is the telephone number right? Verify that the Modem Module is dialing the correct telephone number.
Do the communications settings of the PLC and the modem match? Confirm that the communication settings for both the PLC and the modem are identical.
