Do you have a question about the Omron HR-210 and is the answer not in the manual?

Overview

The OMRON HR-210 Strapless Heart Rate Monitor is a practical sports and fitness aid designed to help users track their heart rate and calorie expenditure without the need for a chest strap. This device functions as a real-time clock, stopwatch, and heart rate monitor, making it a versatile tool for various fitness activities.

Function Description

The primary function of the HR-210 is to measure heart rate. This is achieved by placing fingertips on two metallic plates located on the watch. Once the fingers are in contact with the plates, the watch enters Heart Rate Mode, indicated by an "HR" banner and a flashing heart icon. The device typically takes between 6-10 seconds to detect a heart rate reading. After a valid reading is obtained, the heart rate is displayed on the screen. To exit Heart Rate Mode, users can simply remove their fingers for 3 seconds or press any key.

Beyond heart rate monitoring, the HR-210 also features a stopwatch (Chrono) mode. In this mode, users can start and stop the stopwatch, and if a heart rate reading is taken while the stopwatch is running, the device will calculate and display the calories burned. The calorie reading in Stopwatch Mode represents an average of calories lost during the elapsed time. The more frequently heart rate readings are provided, the more accurate the calorie calculation will be. The stopwatch and calorie values can be reset by stopping or pausing the stopwatch and then pressing and holding the SET/RST button for 2 seconds.

The watch operates in three main modes: Time Mode, Stopwatch Mode (Chrono), and Set Up Mode. Time Mode displays the real-time clock and date. Set Up Mode allows users to configure various settings, including time, alarm, beep tone, and personal data.

Usage Features

To ensure effective use, especially for calorie calculation, users are advised to set the time and their personal data (age, weight, and birth date) in Set Up Mode. This information is crucial for the watch to accurately estimate calories burned based on heart rate readings and exercise time. It's important to re-set this data after any battery replacement or power reset.

The watch includes an alarm function that can be set to turn On or Off. When the alarm is On, an alarm icon is displayed. The alarm can be silenced by pressing any button, after which it will reactivate 24 hours later, or by turning the alarm Off in Alarm Setting Mode.

A beep tone can also be enabled or disabled in the Beep Tone Setting Mode. When the beep tone is Off, an "X" icon is displayed.

For convenience and to prevent accidental activation of heart rate measurement, the watch features a keypad lock function. This can be toggled On or Off by pressing and holding the backlight/keypad lock button for 2 seconds. A lock icon indicates when the keypad is locked.

The watch is equipped with a backlight feature, which can be activated by pressing the backlight/keypad lock button for 3 seconds. The backlight will remain on for another 3 seconds if any key is pressed during this period. However, the backlight will not operate if the keypad is locked or if the battery power is low.

The HR-210 is water-resistant up to 164 feet (50 meters), making it suitable for activities like showering, light swimming, and shallow water sports. However, it is not recommended for snorkeling or deep water diving. It is crucial to ensure that all buttons and the battery compartment are securely intact before exposing the watch to water. Users should also avoid pressing buttons while in water or during heavy rainstorms to prevent water from entering the watch and causing malfunction.

For optimal heart rate measurement, users should ensure they are not running, swimming, or exercising during the reading. The watch should be worn on the wrist, and fingertips (preferably index and middle fingers) should touch both metallic plates. If a reading is difficult to obtain, moistening the fingertips, ensuring they are warm and steady, avoiding excessive pressure on the plates, and making sure the metallic plates and the back of the watch are clean and in close contact with the skin can help.

The watch also supports tracking physical condition and workouts by allowing users to understand their Maximum Heart Rate (MHR), upper heart rate limit, and lower heart rate limit. MHR can be estimated using the formula 220 - age. The manual outlines various training zones (Moderate Activity, Weight Management, Aerobic Zone, Anaerobic Threshold Zone, Red Line Zone) with corresponding MHR percentages, which can guide users in setting their heart rate limits for different fitness goals. It emphasizes the importance of warming up before exercise and consulting a doctor or health professional to determine an appropriate training zone, frequency, and duration.

Maintenance Features

For general care, the watch should be cleaned with a soft, slightly moistened cloth. Abrasive or corrosive cleaning agents should be avoided as they can cause damage. After each training session, it is recommended to clean the watch thoroughly with lukewarm water and mild soap. The product should never be stored when wet or submerged in hot water.

The device is designed for durability, and users are advised not to disassemble or modify the unit, as unauthorized changes will void the warranty. It should also be protected from strong shocks, such as dropping, and should not be submerged in water (beyond its water resistance limits) or have its components submerged.

The HR-210 uses a CR2032 3V battery. When the battery power is low, indicated by flashing battery icons, certain functions like alarm beeping, backlight, and heart rate measurement will be disabled. For battery replacement, it is recommended to take the watch to a local jewelry store to ensure water resistance is maintained, as improper replacement will void the warranty. Regular internal testing and cleaning are suggested if the device has not been used for a long time. The device, battery, and components should be disposed of according to applicable local regulations to prevent environmental pollution.
