Recording from a digital source
1. Press the STAND-BY/ON button.
The STAND-BY indicator will go out.
2. Load a recordable MD.
To check the time remaining for record-
ing...
When the MD recorder is stopped,
press the DISPLAY button. Each press
of the DISPLAY button changes the
display as follows:
The number of tracks on MD and the
total recorded time Remaining
recording time on MD Disc name
("No Name" when not set)
To record by erasing all of the
existing tracks on a prerecorded
MD...
Erase all the tracks before you start
recording(see page 24).
3. Press the INPUT button until
“Digital In1” or “Digital In2”
appears on the display.
The digital input source 1 or 2 is now
selected.
Note:
Make sure which of the digital input
terminals the supplied optical cable is
connected to. If you attempt to perform
digital recording using a digital input
terminal which is not connected, “D.In
Unlock” will appear.
Use the DIGITAL IN 1 digital input
terminal if you connect the CR-185X or
CHR-185X CD receiver to this MD
recorder.
4. Press the
REC button.
The MD recorder is now in the
recording standby mode.
If "D. In Unlock" appears
The digital input source is not con-
nected properly. Check the connection
for the digital input source.

Digital recording refers to recording where an optical digital cable is used for inputting signals from the recording source.
When "Protected" is shown in the display, it indicates that the record-protect tab of the MD is open. Before starting the recording
procedure, close the tab. (See page 23.)
This MD recorder contains a digital input signal sampling frequency rate converter which converts the sampling frequency of digital
input signals to 44.1 kHz before recording.
This converter can handle the following sampling frequencies:
44.1 kHz (CD player, etc.)
32 kHz (DAT, satellite broadcasting, etc.)
48 kHz (DAT, satellite broadcasting, etc.)
