How to fix RFI, hum, clicks, or buzzes in Orban Optimod-TV 8382 Processor?
    • J
      John JohnsonAug 14, 2025
RFI, hum, clicks, or buzzes are often due to a grounding problem. Review grounding information. A ground loop might inject noise, especially if the exciter's input is unbalanced; the Orban CIT25 Composite Isolation Transformer can usually resolve this. RFI can be eliminated using digital connections. Poor transmitter tuning and/or insufficient bandwidth in the antenna system's notch diplexer can cause Incidental Phase Modulation (ICPM). Sometimes, the transmitter requires updating to successfully transmit stereo.

How to fix audible noise on air using Orban Processor?
    • B
      Brian ClarkAug 21, 2025
Audible noise on air can be due to excessive compression exaggerating noise in the source material; use the silence gate to freeze the gain of the AGC and compressor systems. Ensure the GATE THRESHOLD control is set correctly for undetectable processing. The overall noise performance is usually limited by the overload-to-noise ratio of the analog-to-digital converter. Compression in the 8382 can exaggerate STL noise; using the Orban 8200ST Studio AGC to perform the AGC function prior to the STL transmitter is wise.

What to do if the Orban Optimod-TV 8382 Processor system will not pass emergency alert system tones?
    • C
      Charles BakerAug 25, 2025
If the system will not pass emergency alert system tones, it is because of ineffective processing of emergency tones. Inject these tones into the transmitter after the 8382, or switch to BYPASS to pass them.

How to resolve shrill, harsh sound from Orban Optimod-TV 8382?
    • J
      joshuawadeAug 27, 2025
A shrill, harsh sound can be caused by excessive HF boost in the HF Equalizer and HF Enhancer. Check settings of the BAND 4 THRESH control, BAND 4 MIX and BAND 5 MIX controls. If using an external stereo encoder with built-in pre-emphasis, set the 8382’s output to Flat in the System Setup / Output screen.

Why is there a whistle on air, perhaps only in stereo reception, with my Orban Optimod-TV 8382 Processor?
    • C
      Cory BallAug 30, 2025
A whistle on air, especially in stereo reception, could indicate an input problem. Examine the left and right analog outputs with a spectrum analyzer. It may be due to oscillation in the analog input or output circuitry; power supply oscillation; STL problems; exciter problems. Check various elements including DACs and external device functionality.

How to troubleshoot Orban Processor system not locking to digital output?
    • T
      Tina LewisSep 3, 2025
If a system receiving the 8382’s digital output will not lock, the output sample rate or mode does not match expected values. Be sure that the 8382’s output mode (AES3 or SPDIF) is set correctly.

Why does my Orban Optimod-TV 8382 Processor sound dull?
    • D
      David NelsonSep 6, 2025
A dull sound can be due to dull-sounding source material. The Multiband structure will automatically re-equalize such dull-sounding program material. Also, check if the 8382’s output is set to Flat in System Setup / Output, because there will be no pre-emphasis unless supplied elsewhere in the system.

Why won't my Orban Processor system pass line-up tones at 100% modulation?
    • W
      westhectorSep 9, 2025
The system not passing line-up tones at 100% modulation is normal behavior of its processing. The 8382 can generate test tones itself.

What causes audible distortion on air with Orban Optimod-TV 8382 Processor and how to resolve it?
    • J
      Jesse BoyerNov 16, 2025
Audible distortion on-air can stem from several causes. Multipath distortion at the monitoring site might be mistaken for real distortion, so verify the problem on multiple receivers and locations. Heavy processing can exaggerate slightly distorted material, so ensure the source material at the 8382's audio inputs is clean. Subjective adjustments at extreme settings can cause distortion, especially setting the LESS-MORE control beyond “9” with certain presets. If using analog inputs, ensure the peak input level doesn't exceed +27 dBu to prevent A/D converter clipping. High multipath environments might require reducing the stereo enhancer’s RATIO LIMIT control. If using sum-and-difference processing in the AGC, reduce the setting of the AGC’s MAXDELTAGR controls. The 8382 has higher dynamic...
