How to eliminate RFI, hum, clicks, or buzzes in Orban Processor?
    • S
      Steven HamiltonAug 14, 2025
RFI, hum, clicks, or buzzes in the Orban Processor are often due to a grounding problem. Review the grounding information to resolve this. If the issue persists, repositioning the unit to reduce RF interference may be necessary. Using digital connections will almost certainly eliminate the RFI.

Why is there audible noise on air when using Orban OPTIMOD-FM 8600S?
    • R
      Ralph GrahamAug 21, 2025
Audible noise on air when using the Orban Processor is often due to excessive compression, which exaggerates noise in the source material. The compressor gate freezes the gain of the AGC and compressor systems whenever the input noise drops below a level set by the threshold control for the processing section in question.

Why is there an unexpected delay between the program feed and on-air signal in my Orban OPTIMOD-FM 8600S Processor?
    • T
      Traci HickmanAug 26, 2025
An unexpected delay between the program feed and the on-air signal may occur if the diversity delay has been accidentally applied to the output you are using to drive your transmitter.

How to fix poor peak modulation control on Orban OPTIMOD-FM 8600S Processor?
    • K
      Kevin ThorntonAug 29, 2025
First, check whether the final clipper is active. If you are using the analog or digital output to drive the transmitter, make sure that this output is not receiving the MONITOR signal.

What causes loudness to drop during HD Radio crossfades with Orban OPTIMOD-FM 8600S Processor?
    • J
      John OwensSep 1, 2025
Momentary loudness drops during HD Radio analog/digital crossfades can occur if the analog and digital channels in your transmission path have reversed polarity with respect to each other. You can correct this with the HD POLARITY or FM POLARITY controls.

Why is there a whistle on air, especially in stereo, when using Orban OPTIMOD-FM 8600S?
    • L
      linda41Sep 5, 2025
A whistle on air, particularly in stereo reception, is often caused by oscillation in the analog input or output circuitry. If the oscillation is in the output circuitry and is between 23 and 53 kHz, it will be detected in a receiver’s stereo decoder and translated down into the audible range.

What to do if Orban OPTIMOD-FM 8600S Processor does not pass EAS tones at required modulation level?
    • B
      Brandi SmithSep 9, 2025
These tones should be injected into the transmitter after the 8600S, or the 8600S should be temporarily switched to BYPASS to pass the tones.

What to do if there is audible distortion on-air with my Orban Processor?
    • N
      Natalie HerreraNov 16, 2025
If you're experiencing audible distortion, first verify that the source material at the processor's audio inputs is clean, as heavy processing can exaggerate even slight distortions. Also, be mindful that subjective adjustments such as MULTIBAND CLIPPING, FINAL CLIP DRIVE, and COMPOSITE CLIP DRIVE can cause distortion at extreme settings. Setting the LESS-MORE control beyond “9” will cause audible distortion of some program material with all but the Classical and Protect presets. If you are using the 8600S’s stereo enhancer, then this can exaggerate multipath distortion in high multipath environments. If you are using sum-and-difference processing in the 8600S’s AGC, reduce the setting of the AGC’s MAXDELTAGR controls. If you are using an external processor ahead of the 8600S, be sure it i...
